Trade a 2003 M5 for 2004-5 645 convertible?
I have a 2003 M5 in a unique red color with only 7,500 miles that I really don't drive enough and enjoy enough. Was thinking of trading it in (plus a little cash, of course) for a 2004-5 645 convertible. I will be putting some pictures of it up soon and will probably post it on Autotrader, but if anyone knows of an individual or dealer that might be interested in something like this, please let me know.
My car is Electric Red exterior, Imola Red/Black two-tone interior, Sport interior trim, Park Distance Control, Rear Sunshade, Kelleners Sport exhaust, UUC Evo 3 Short Shifter, Lidatek LE30 Laser Countermeasures, Huperoptik ceramic tinting all around (35% I think). Oh, also a custom audio setup with Focal Polykevlar speakers up front, JL Audio 300/4 and 500/1 amplifcation for the 10" 10W6v2 sealed enclosure subwoofer direct firing into the passenger cabin.

I agree, very sad. And also a very expensive decision (to have purchased this car and not have driven it much). Since I'm driving my 996 predominantly these days and I can't get my wife to bother learning to drive a stick, I'm looking for an SMG type car where we can both drive it when desired.

Not really what I'm looking for anymore. I thought I wanted to ultimate all-around car (which the M5 is pretty close to being). But it is a compromise of sort still. Not really a sports car. Not really a family car. Not enough of a sports car that I want to drive it more than my 996 C4 Cab when I want that feel. Not as much a family car when we take trips and like the space in the MDX. So instead of having one car for all needs, I've resigned myself to having 2 cars to satisfy me instead of trying to combine it all into one.
Some pics before I compile the rest of them:

I like the 6, but I'm not sure it's enough of a step up in terms of sportiness that you wont have the same... my impression is that it's a sharper GT. Why not pick up a M Coupe... sportiest car in the BMW lineup.

Yeah, that's my whole motivation for changing cars. I'm not looking for a sports car anymore. I want a GT/comfortable/luxury car that still has a little bit of a sporting edge. When I want a sports car to drive, I have my 996 C4 Cabriolet. It has more of a pure sports car feel than the M5 (and the attendent compromises that go along with being a sports car). I think the 645 provides what I'm looking for.
I was hoping my dealer would offer me a reasonable trade in/up for a 645 convertible, but if they insist on screwing me on the trade-in value of the M5 AND screw me by making me pay retail on the 6 series, then I have no need to stay in the BMW family. Every other dealer in the country would treat me to the same kind of screwing (financially!). But I'm still hopeful that I can find a reasonable middle when my salesperson comes back from vacation next week. But if I can get my price on the open market and offer the car to someone who would really appreciate it, and the set of mods I've got on it, then it would give me much more satisfaction compared to just dropping it off with a dealer.

Don't waste your time looking for someone that wants to trade. An E39 M5 with that low of miles is worth big money if you find the right buyer. I have seen some 2001's with 45,xxx miles go for $45k
