Sway bars - how much do they affect right quality?

I have the Dinan Stage 3 suspension package on my E36 M3, and while the handling is great (totally flat), it's pretty uncomfortable. The stage 3 package consists of Koni dampers with H&R springs, front and rear Dinan sway cars, and camber plates. As of late I haven't been doing any aggresive driving, so I was considering removing both sway bars. Would this improve the ride quality at all, or should I just keep them on there?

Thanks!

leave them there! Maybe swap for less aggressive sway bars, but have something there.

The swaybar is an active part of the suspension that helps to counteract body roll. With huge swaybars, the bar can actually overpower the springs and prevent any and all body roll. With no swaybars, you will notice a vast degradation of ride performance and could render your car unsafe to drive.

If your ride is uncomfortable, consider taking your stg 3 suspension down to stg 2 or 1. If regular straight driving is uncomfortable, it's the springs and shocks that are causing it.

The sway bars aren't stock, they are Dinan aftermarket - if I remove them, the car will still handle well (it doesn't have swaybars from the factory) . Stage 1 is the same, just without the sway bars and camber plates. From what I hear, swaybars do stiffen up the ride somewhat, since they are linking the two suspension points.

An M3 doesn't have swaybars from the factory??

Wow, you learn something new every day. Well in that case, if the car is designed around no swaybars, go ahead and take them off to see what happens.

I figured a performance-oriented vehicle like an M3 would certainly have swaybars. It never even occurred to me to check.

Well, I assumed it didn't, the owner gave me all stock parts, and I never got any sway bars. The installation instructions also don't mention removing the stock parts. You could be right, maybe it does, I'll have to look into it.

pick up a set of stock swaybars and/or look into lower spring rates
...you can probly find someone on one of the bimmer forums looking to swap....

or you could always just sell it to my buddy as is and get a nice plush daily beater for a few months Clean e36's are always in demand.
