Although I don't see my '07M6 as a replacement to my modded 996tt, I think its an amazing car. I find the SMG to be very smooth, responsive and the car is very fast for a heavy GT convertible. I love my M6
Honestly, unless I'm going for a "spirited drive" with my porsche buddies, I prefer to drive the M6. I'd also drive another M6

sucks to hear ur having problems... i'm sure if it was resolved u'd feel a little better about ur purchase. as recommended already, definitely drive another stock M6 with SMG and see what happens. if u have this major problem i would be busting down BMW service's door until it was fixed. drop it off until the solution is completed. u can't be paying for such a high performance vehicle with a high monthly payment and not be able to enjoy it. talk to ur original salesman first to make him set up everything (this way word gets passed through every one) then drop it off at service and refuse to pick it up until it is ready. if the problem is major enough that it stay there too long u tell them to cover the month because u have not been able to enjoy the car throughout ownership and its inconvenient not being able to use a car u are paying for so much. request a 5 or 7 series loaner at least. i know this is a very aggressive way to play it but thats just the way it has to be said or else they won't feel in a rush to take care of u. i've had my fair share of experience and these people don't do the job until they are backed into a wall.
oh yeah if they don't resolve it, ask them to buy ur car back and take a new one out

My M6

I bought the car in February with 7K miles on it. I now have 11K on it. Just recently, say within the last two months, I have been hesitant to even think of pulling out into traffic due to it rolling backwards while I am trying to accelerate. (the head mechanic said it was a throttle issue). They supposedly reconfigured the computer, but it only took two weeks before it started acting up again. I have played with the adjustments on the console, but it does not seem to help much. Maybe I am expecting too much from this car.
I have been researching the car, and have found several articles on the lack of response on the SMG. I wish I would have read these before I bought the car.

You've taken it to the dealership multiple times for the same issue? Tranny related?

No issues with the tranny, but the SMG is inherently jerky. It takes some practice to get it shifting smooth, believe it or not.

My SMG M5 is by far the best car I have ever had or driven. I have no problem whatsoever driving it smoothly.

Do you get used to the lag between shifts under slow, normal driving conditions? I didn't test drive the M6 SMG very long, but I found the lag annoying.
