BMW's Valvetronic variable valve lift mechanism actually replaces conventional throttle-body controlled power delivery. An electronically-actuated eccentric shaft varies the intake valve lift height when you press down on the accelerator pedal, regulating power. The importance of a properly functioning eccentric shaft sensor is therefore obvious. Poor fuel economy, engine power loss, and starting difficulty are just a few of the symptoms of a failing ES sensor. ECS offers OEM and VDO Eccentric Shaft Sensors, as well as a service kit including a valve cover & ES sensor gasket.
