couple questions about a boxster s order

hey guys (and gal),

i placed an order for an 08 boxster s this last week. pretty basic order, but I have some questions about a few specific options.

here's the spec (from memory)
box s 6-spd
- arctic silver
- black/black
- leather sport seats
- climate control
- windstop
- xenons
- heated seats
- pasm
- floor mats

I wanted to keep it fairly simple, and prioritize performance over luxury.

However, I want to be sure I'm not missing something obvious, such as:
- Bose: the Box S has an upgraded stereo over the Box. How much better is the Bose? $1k worth?
- I'm choosing to go w/the 18s because of weight and some extra wheel/sidewall protection. Not having a spare tire bugs me, and I think the 19s are mostly "bling". Thoughts?

Anything else I should do since I'm going factory-build?

My build date is 1/16. Do you know approximately how long I have to tweak the order before it locks down? The dealer isn't clear on this one.

Thanks!
Scott.

from everything I have read, the 1+ size wheels that Porsche have been offering have been an obligation of the marketing department. So... I think that qualifies as bling.

None of Porsche stereos seem to please the crowd that would want to have booming sound. They definitely do not seem to have audio as the highest priority. That said the Boxster has been the performance reference for all roadsters since it's inception.

Your S will be amazing.

Scott; Your S should be great. Other than color, my 2008 S is optioned fairly similar. Mine is getting it's PDI today and should ship to the dealer mid-week or so. It was an October build and so far the steps in manufacturing have been as expected. I opted for the standard climate control, not the automatic, as I wanted to try an avoid some of the problems a few have reported. There are a couple of threads here and if you jump over to the cayman club board, a few good discussions there on automatic vs. standard climate. As far as changing your order, there's a good reference at http://www.986faq.com/3-0/default.asp and even though this is for a 986, my 987 followed very similar steps and dates.

Hope this helps, enjoy your S!

I would have liked that I added the Bose in mine.

Congrats on your new purchase! I just ordered my '08 Boxster S last week... can't wait

regarding your questions...

I have auto climate control on my 03 Boxster S and have rarely if ever used it. Especially with the top down (which it is..most of the time) it doesn't make sense to use it... I find the automatic position blows too strongly anyways and automatically switches the a/c on regardless of the temp. chosen. I don't want to draw engine power from use of the a/c anyways, so.. I find myself usually just setting the fan speed/temp to my own liking.

also.. Power Seats a must!... I had said if I ever ordered another Porsche it had to have Lumbar support... standard seats have awful low back support.

I almost went with the Navigation system too, but it was so awful and sales staff couldn't even figure some of it out. A whole lot of **** spinning and time to imput. Really primitive.... I could think of a lot better options to get with the $3k it saved me.

Regarding sports chrono.... i test drove the heck out of one and really could not tell any significant difference.. it was 'subtle' at best... not worth the $1k they wanted...that and the nasty looking useless stop watch on the dash...

I have the Bose surround sound now on my '03 and I like it a lot. I know and assume that there are better systems out there for the price, but it sounds really nice and I think the base Bose unit is esp. poor for what you get...so I would go with the upgrade..I'm sure you'll be happy you did.

also... you should think seriously about heated seats... I use mine all the time.. esp. with those brisk morning...top up/ or down... feels good on the back. hey..i live in Arizona and use it a lot.... you won't be sorry

I ordered Meteor Grey.. almost went with Slate, but they were pretty darn close and for over $3k more it wasn't that much difference...Can't wait till Feb. '08 to get it!!
Here are my options:

Meteor Grey
Blck top and interior
19" Carrera S Wheel
Wheel Caps with Crest
Power Seat Package (Lumbar control A MUST!)
Full leather
Smooth leather sport steering wheel
Heated Seats (always using these)
Floor Mats
Winstop/Deflector
Roll Bar Painted Exterior Color
Exterior Package Exterior Color (Side vents and Front Vents)
Bose Surround
Bi-Xenon Lights

hi scott,

i had the oem 17's on mine, but switched to 19's. they aren't bling in a bad way...lol! i use them as my DD tires and when i go to the track/autoX, i just change them back over to the oem's. without a doubt in my mind, the stocks are better for performance driving.

some other options to consider, if the 08 doesn't already come with it standard is the painted interior to match the arctic silver. on the interior when you open the door, there is a running board that you can get. mine is silver that says "boxster" in a lighter silver. they look good in the metal verses plastic. i have the bose upgrade and i love it! and i love my windstop!

sounds like you pretty much have everything! yeahhhh on your choice of arctic silver!
