New RS 60 Boxster - thoughts...

What do yall think of the new RS 60 Spyder/Boxster?

There is a new special edition Boxster. Visit the Porsche website and there is a link to a mini-site featuring the RS 60.

The car makes 303 hp with similar factory specs to the Cayman S. (0-60 and top speed)

I like the front clip – looks more aggressive.
The interior details such as the painted roll bars and deletion of the gauge cover are cool touches. The steering wheel is supposed to be unique to the model but I can’t tell the difference – anyone know. Probably my favorite option is the color – GT Silver Metallic – I wanted this color for my Cayman but did not want to spend $3,500 on a color option. Next best thing… Artic Silver Metallic.

I was not considering changing anything on my Cayman but those all red taillights are dope!

Anyone know the MSRP? I did not see it on the site. Or availability date?

Lip Splitters

I ordered those from Suncoast Motorsport, they were painted this week and will install them with a clear 3M film. My car is seal grey over grey with a full Milltek exhaust. Should look similar to the RS60. The red interior is just not me. The cost is $10,000 over an S, I believe.

I am not impressed. Its a great car already, a few extra ponies are always welcome but they seem to just throw out these cars as a sales tool rather than a real special edition that would be sought after over the years. Thats my .02

I like the aesthetic treatments but if you are going to use the RS designation a noticeable performance improvement should be obvious. You won't feel 8hp. Also, some improvement or differentiation in the suspension, stiffer springs, sways, whatever to give it the RS edge. When I think RS, I think lightweight track machine. This isn't anywhere near that.

Hopefully this is not the start of 'special edition' mania a la Ford Mustang with historic monikers used to tart up existing vehicles. Using the RS designation is just plain wrong without dropping some weight, adding some nicer suspension bits etc.

I agree that is sounds like a marketing scheme more than anything. The "RS" version should be more special/sportier/faster/lighter/stiffer.

8 extra ponnies???? WOW!!!!!!! GT3 better watch out

When I went to the local dealer to ask about GT3 RS and 997TT's (which of course they didn't have) and instead the guy (politely) was pushing me in to this RS. I politely said no thanks!

That is what I thought as well. But weird since that is not even CLOSE to what I was looking for. Oh well! They gotta try!

Actually not a fan of the all-red taillights. Otherwise, beautiful car. The front bilateral 'spoiler lip' addition give it a much better stance. If they added another 20 ponies and put this package in the Cayman S with ~80 kg of weight savings, that would be a car a lot of us would get in line for.
Unfortunately this seems like a marketing gimmick.
On the other hand, when I've seen these from Porsche, i usually think to myself that it would make a great used car, and let someone else take the depreciation hit. Unfortunately, I've been surprised at how much some of these models have been holding their value - specifically the 986 40th anniversary edition ('04 I believe).
I guess this may be specific to the 911 due to its history and the fact that it's an anniversary edition, but Porsche is trying pretty hard to do something similar here by tying it back to the Spyder from 50 years ago.
Thoughts?

were there any markings on the car denoting the fact that it's a RS 60 Spyder? there doesn't seem to be any on the website pictures.
