Excellence article Boxster w/GT3 engine

If you guys get a chance, read the article in the May issue of Excellence magazine titled "B Movie." A guy in Australia commissioned a tuner to mod a 986 with a 996 GT3 series 1 engine and a host of other mods.

The project took 2 years to complete and cost more than the price of a new GT3. It's fast, properly done and has a few really cool body mod's.

It makes sense that it cost a lot of money. The GT1 block engine in the 911 hasn't been put in a mid-engine configuration for a long time... since it was initially created in the GT1!!!

Kind of odd they make a 911 engine block for a mid-engine'd car, then only make a production version in rear engine format for future iterations. I'll be looking at the magazine!

I read the article. Very nicely done with the body mods. Australian company did it. Dont know why you would spend that much money, but I guess to each there own.

I did not get my copy in the mail today, I would love to see pictures of the car. Does anyone have them? I checked out Excellence Magazines website and did not see anything.

It's a very interesting article, but the costs involved did not reflect the costs to change the engine. There were MASSIVE other changes as well which I'm sure amounted to a very large amount (not listed/detailed). Some of the other modifications include custom carbon fiber body parts, significant custom body work ("Two solid weeks of custom metal-shaping" in the rear) including 996 Mk II-based front end, GT3 and GT3 cup suspension with assorted custom and modified suspension bits, Brembo Motorsport brakes, 997 and 11" OZ Racing wheels with relocated suspension pick-up points, GT3 racing bucket seats, interior redone in leather, carbon fiber interior bits, etc. Basically, if it could be done, it was done. Nice attention to detail, IMO. The exhaust is also a nice custom over-the-axle setup like on the 987.
