Tires: Continental ContiSportContact 2 or Pirelli PZero System

Hey guys, so my Nitto NT555 rears are pretty worn down now, and looks like I should be replacing them soon... Only got 8k miles on the rears and, while I probably could get another 1 or 2k out of them... I'm thinking to be safe and swap em out soon.

Aside from buying a set of brand new tires of the latest and greatest... I have two sets of tires in my garage. One is a set of Continental ContiSportContact 2, takeoffs from a 996 Carrera.. The other set are Pirelli PZero System tires also from a 996.

Both have great treadlife. Out of the two, which would you guys use, based on your personal experiences from them on performance, treadlife, ride quality, etc?

Thanks!

Neither of those are great tires. "Obsolete" comes to mind. Unless you drive a lot of miles annually, I would not "waste" a Boxster on these. Life is too short. Also, how old are the other tires? Do you have NT555s on the front?

I have had a few tires on mine. The Contisport I were absolute trash. They are the worst tire I have ever had on any car. Seriously, my Accord (with decent sticky tires) could take my Boxster on Contis. I was unimpressed with my PZero Assimms as well. They were not embarrassing, but I later had S-03s which blew them away in every regard including ride comfort. I also had Bridgestone RE750s at one point (which is a more pedestrian tire), and I would rate them comparable to the PZeros in stick, but again blew them away in ride, treadlife, noise, etc.

I 2nd the S-03s. The Toyo T1R are also a great one for these cars but do not plan on getting a lot of miles out of them.

+2 on the SO3.....

I don't know what's your definition of a lot of miles but the T1R on my M3 still has a lot of meat left with 8000K miles of usage. It has a 280 threadwear so I'm thinking of 20K before I change these. That's a lot more compared to the Cup tires on my other car.

I get about 4K hard miles on my T1R's. I love them but they burn up quick at over 100MPH and aggressive turns.

How did you do that on a T1R? I can get more mileage from my Michelin Cup R compound tires.

back on topic. Both the Contis and P-Zero will be fine on the streets. Do you have the Conti one or two? The two are much better. If you are planning to track your car then I think the P-zero would be a better choice. ; )

PS2 are my number 1 street tires.

put the Pzero on. I think these are the rosso right? that's not a bad tire at all. my rear lasted about 15k mi and fronts about 40k. i drive freeways more than streets along with a track day and some aggressive morning drives.

i know the asymetricos are a lot worse. i don't think they come in boxster size though as they are for wide body 996. if yours are asymetricos, I'd stick w Conti.

Use them up and buy something better next time IMO. Why waste a good set? Don't keep these too long though as tires tend to dry up after 10 yrs i think.

Yeah, I have the Continental ContiSportContact 2's... and the other set I have is the PZero System (Direzionale fronts and Asimmetrico rears). These would be mostly for the street... and later on for the Track, I'll get a dedicated set of track tires.

Hey Damon, yeah.. It's just that I already have these two sets of tires, so I wouldn't need to spend anything on them, aside from mounting/balancing.

Get the BfGoodrich KDW 2s. You will not regret it. They are less expensive than pirellis AND A LOT BETTER!!!!!! Its been raining here in miami ALOT and performance in the the rain is AMAZING!! Also, you cant beat the looks!!!
Check em out! Why would you even consider continentals their like "walmart brand!!! Continentals are crap!!!! You drive a PORSCHE. The tires are the most important thing you can get!
