2008 Boxster or 2006 Boxster S

i think i am going to swap the C4S now that i have the Cayenne GTS - there is possibly too much overlap. May not do it though as i love the bavk seats of the C4S - comes in handy soooooh ofton. anyway i am looking at two cars.

2008 Boxster

2006 Boxster S

removed the pic of the S as i couldn't shrink it.

Aside from more warranty left and mileage why would you pick the 2008 Boxster?

Give more info in terms of price, miles, CPO or not, etc...

To me there is a huge difference between an 06 Boxster S and an 08 base Boxster.

Even my 2000 Boxster S feels faster than the 2008 Boxster.

not really a price thing as much. Car & Driver etc seem to always pick both models. they really seem to love both the 2008 Boxster is now up to 245hp.

i am not really looking just for speed and as my dtr is now 16 i am thinking the Boxster may be better if i ever let her in anything other then the passenger seat.

there seem to be some interesting engine and other improvements in 2008.

the 2008 really looks good!

the 2006 has chrono which i thought might be a deal breaker, but i just read last 12 months of this thread and did a search and there is surprisingly little on this option..

the largest set of comments suggested limited feel but knwoing what the sport button does in the GTS and my old M3, i can't help but think it is worth it?

I have an 07 Boxster S with Sport/Chrono. Most times I drive in normal mode. I've tried the "sport" mode and found it takes some getting used to from a shifting/clutch perspective. I hope to track the car this fall, where the sport mode will probably come in handy.

Softronic is offering an ECU flash were you can request the "sport" throttle remap without having the sport/chrono option. Although, it'll be on all the time...

Not sure if this helps, but there's my .02 : )

thanks crazed - i use the sport 99% of the ime in the GTS - also did in the turbo as well. not really the speed side of it - i like the touchier throttle and the stiffer ride.

no sport on the 996 C4S!

driving the boxster for 5 days or so and i think the boxster compares to the S as the GTS Cayenne compares to the turbo. useable performance vs pure illegal speed levels.

with a sport exhaust the boxster has limited additional torque between 4500rpm and 6000 rpm but it has RPM and f#@king amazing engine sound. the S takes you too far into the ticket/impound rate at those RPM's.

the Boxster - full leather; sport exhaust etc - it will replace the C4S i think!

the difference imo was expressed perfectly in the June issue of the UK mag CAR -

"it is much more satisfying to stretch an engine than constrain it and.. you spend too much time hauling at the leash of a Boxster S"

obviously personal but that is the essence of the difference between the Cayenne Turbo and the GTS as well.
