Boxster Model Year Differences

I did a quick search here, but was not able to find too much info…so sorry if it’s a repost
Some info I found on the 987 is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Boxster

I am looking at buying a 05+ Boxster S and was wondering if it’s worth the extra money to look for an 06. I would be saving around 5 grand by getting the 05.

Looking for something with under 26k miles, manual tranny and preferably with factory nav.

06 has Tire Pressure Monitoring System, TPMS. That's it I believe. I purchased the Orange TPMS from Tirerack >$175. Love it.

Cayman Cab S is right .The 2005 was the big change to the 3.4 liter motor along with all the other great redesigns .If you are going to do software or plenum upgrades then 07 and up are the way to go .But the 05 is definately worth the 5K more .Its a lot more Car and any one that knows porsches will pay at least 5k more for an 05 over an 04 without a doubt. owning any boxster is cool ,but if you have the extra 5k do not hesitate..

I believe the 05 and 06 boxsters had a 3.2 L engine and 280 hp...it increased to 3.4l and 295hp in 07...

i would stay with an 05 to save money unless you decide to go with an 07

If you can afford the 07 S model it has new 3.4 liter motor that is easy to upgrade and shares a common power plant with the Cayman S .it would be worth it in the long run in my opinion. If the HP is no big deal then 05 06 will do just fine.Looking back to 2000 the boxster motor was either a 2.7 with 217 HP and a 3.2 liter with 250 hp so the 07 08 Base boxster 2.7 would be comparable to those years.so it all depends on what you want.If you want the fastest boxster avail aside from the new 09 with PDK then go with 07 08 models . you should be able to find an 07 for a great price right now in this economy .

I had read on renntech that the '06 motors use stronger bolts to help minimize probability of IMS failures. The IMS problem goes away with (I think) the 2009 model with FSI.
