Porsche sells a special tool to remove oil filters.

Is such a tool required to remove/install a 987 oil filter?

Isn't this the same as the plastic ones sold at some parts stores?

Nope. I tried the ones at the auto stores. They are 15sided and the Porsche is 14sided. I used an oil strap, but next time I will just buy the tool. So much easier.

Good to know.

Do you think Mercedes does the same thing on their filters? I actually have a plastic one that fit perfectly on my e55's filter. I bought it on closeout somewhere for 10x off because it obviously wouldn't sell. I wonder if it is an odd, discontinued, plastic 14-sided adapter?

I cheaped out and got one of these instead. Works just as good as the oil filter tool for $8 CDN.

Yes we do have the OEM oil filter wrenches, plenty in stock and ready to ship.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
