CaymanS Track Build - Suspension, Brakes, Rollcage (Pics)
My dad picked up a CaymanS last month and after a week it was dropped off at Precision Motorsports Racing in Califon NJ to get some track updates.
Dan at vividracing.com provided the PSS10 and also a lot of great customer working with me for probably 4 weeks to get the Cobra SuzukaS GT seats (not pictured) worked out. Many many many thanks.
He picked up Girodisk 2pc rotors and Pagid yellows from Craig at rennstore.com, who is always very helpful.
And then one of the new Farnbacher Loles roll cages. Which given the tight space of the Cayman is a bit rough to get installed. For anyone considering this cage its important to note that the uprights mount directly behind the seats, so you wont be able to push the seats all the way back.
My dad is pretty tall, 6'1" so that became a huge issue. Luckily the Cobra seats provided the perfect fit, but as a comparison, the stock seats which were comfortable when pushed all the way back, were near undrivable with the decreased space.

I was going through the American muscle forum and saw that your dad was originally looking for a C6 Z06 to track. What were the reasons for going with a Cayman S instead?
I'm curious because I am currently debating between the two cars as well and am leaning towards the Z06. (Weekend car w/ ~10 track days a year)

1) He was coming from a E46 M3 and the Z06 would be literally twice as fast. Since this is our second year doing track I told him that on some tracks, like VIR, I end up lifting before the end of the back straight because I'm getting too much speed for my experience level and he agreed that a faster car with less experience is a more difficult car to learn in.
2) I kept telling him that eventually he would end up in a Porsche and he test drove a Cayman and he absolutely fell in love with the handling. I guess there is something about those mid-engine cars
So that combined with the fact that minus seating and rollbars/harnesses all of the parts are readily available for the Cayman, there are a lot of people close by that are familiar with the mechanical workings, cheaper maintenance than a Z06, and an overall better platform to learn and gain experience, he went with the CaymanS.
He hasn't regretted his decision one bit and won't shut up about how much he loves the cayman. I think for the track the 500hp would have been overkill, sure its fun to slingshot around cars on the highway, but he did around 35 track days last year, and hopes to do 35-50 this year, so its more a track car than a street car and its definitely a car that he can gain experience with.
Plus its cheaper on the perishables: rotors, brake pads, tires, all of those things add up over time especially with the amount of track he does, so the cost savings certainly didn't hurt either.
Thank you sir, as always =)

We're heading out to NJMP Thunderbolt on Saturday so we'll finally be able to get a good track day in.
The brakes are great, I test drove his car for a bit right after they were put it, they bite immediately and the pedal feel is definitely better than my turbo.
