What Cayman S engine mods are there?

I am looking into getting a used Cayman S. The only thing don't like is the low hp numbers. What alternatives do I have to fix it up?

For more power:
-Catback Exhaust (many many different kinds)
-Softronic 4.1 Kit(ECU upgrade, Bigger Throttle body, Bigger Plenum) **to be used with catback exhaust
-RS 350 Kit (Ecu upgrade, Bigger TB, Bigger Plenum) **also to be used with catback

You can also get all those things in the kit separately as well.

Oh and the TPC Turbo upgrade.

from what I've been reading... 3-4 months... The biggest hp hitter is the TPC turbo kit... it is not cheap 10K plus installation (or DIY)... BUT, unless I'm missing something, getting an aftermarket exhaust/tips etc would be a waste of time/$ if you end up going the TPC route...

I think I've read where guys have gone w/ lots of aftermarket parts and then end up selling that stuff off when they install the TPC turbo kit...

If you're really serious about more power, I'd just bit the bullet and go straight to the TPC kit.

I am curious tho about what else needs to be replaced "to handle" the extra power... clutch presumably??? what else??

we always recommend(but do not require) pagid yellow pads, uprated fluid and our lightweight flywheel/X51 clutch package.

lemme know if you need any more help.

I went the RS350 route, was extremely happy with it. If you're interested, I'd recommend going with RSS(Southern California), Sharkwerks (Northern California) or EVOMS (Arizona)

If you know you're going to end up going Turbo, then save yourself the time and $ and go straight with TPC.

Casey/Josh/Tom over at TPC are absolutely a blast to work with and will be able to answer any questions you may about the kit. The shop that's doing my install will be the first and only shop in southern california experienced with the kit. let me know if you would be interested in bringing your car to san diego for the install and I can get you their contact information.

here's the thread outlining the installation of the kit on my car. few more days left !!!!

oh, there's also a thread comparing the 911 and the Cayman. give that a read too and welcome to the board !

1 option:As notquitefob posted the RSS complete package with a nice high flow exhaust is a good way to increase the power to the range to 335 to 345 depending the exhaust and what your car is at a stock hp rating.

2nd option: to be fair to all the performance tuner co's out there and the OP "SOFTRONIC" is another co that has some great products and benefits one can take advantage of .I have a SRP with the 4.1 upgraded high flow flash and a Remus exhaust and I am a happy camper .My car is a 2.7 Cayman but My friends have that exact setup in mods and dynoed his cayman S at 340 HP !!!
You will have to research for yourself to what is best for you as I am not going to start WW3 These manufactures both deliver a good product or they would not be in business today .

If you really want the BIG HP number and have the $$ the TPC TURBO is no doubt the way to go.

Sugestion ,Befriend a cayman S owner with Option 1 or 2 and ask to drive their car or befriend a TPC turbo owner (the crowd is growing) and bribe them to drive their car.It would be money spent well

what do you think the TPC Turbo would take a 2.7 Cayman to In terms of HP?

Somewhere between 100 and 125whp depending on the fuel being used.

I hope there is a TPC twin-turbo Cayman S at Road America over Labor Day as I would love to really look it over. I want to compare the TPC Kit to the RS350 and Softronic's full setup - usually I am hellbent on sticking with naturally aspirated, but seeing and comparing everything might have me changing my mind.

Karrera4... our kit only uses 1 turbo.

Are you referring to croctoberfest? there will likely be at least one there. And there is really no comparison to the other pieces you mentioned...

ours would be a 485 kit

I'm not sure what the heck I was thinking....because your turbo kit was what I was referring to! thanks for the correction..

Yes, I am referring to croctoberfest. I know I couldn't get close to 485 w/o doing the turbo, but I usually prefer NA cars (such as the GT3 over the TT). I'm not saying I can't be convinced tho! Plus, if I dropped a 3.8 X51 in the car, it would be more than simply going with the turbo setup so I look at them as a good comparison.

For what it is worth... Larry(Itmerc)'s car only put down 310 hp to the wheels with the 3.8L x51. We just finished tuning at 506whp.

What's the ballpark cost to have the TPC turbo installed?
