Deep South Road Trip
Deep South Road Trip
Fellas, i am in the planning stages of my next road trip (and the first serious one in my Cayman). The trip will be 10-15 days (depends on work) and will start in Philly and go down as far as Miss/Ark/Ala....then obv returning to Philly at the end. I dont want to back track so ill do a big "loop" i think. Dates are Oct. 15 - 25/29th.
The only things i have set in stone are a Wedding on the 17th in Tenn...but the rest is open. Any cool places i MUST see, hotels i must stay in, spots i have to eat at - car related events going on down that way?
Getting my new Ps2's on in the next month or so...will have the car all serviced up prior to leaving....and have my normal array of road trip items (fix a flat, 5 pairs of cheap sunglasses, etc) ready to go!
Any cool ideas on this part of the country are much appreciated - and if anyone wants to meet up along the way for a beer or to cruise with me that would be awesome
Cheers,
Jon

Where are you going in Tennessee? There are some of the best driving roads in the country there with the most popular being hwy US 129 in the mountains of east TN, also known as "the dragon". People drive there from all over the country to test those 318 curves in 11 miles and there have been write-ups in just about every well known car magazine from Road and Track to Excellence. Google it and you'll get tons of info.
If you decided to go to east TN, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is beautiful and is the most visited national park in the country. Right there you also have Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge which are hugh tourist attractions.

Thanks for the post. I am VERY familiar with the Tail of the Dragon...i did it a bunch of times last summer in my 997S (the one in my avatar). Road is amazing! I plan on hitting it again in my Cayman on this trip for sure. Oh and the wedding i am attending is in Gaitlinburg so hopefully ill find some fun areas around there too.

Feel free to hit me up when you come down here, I'd love to go on a dragon run with you. There will be plenty of things for you to do in Gatlinburg and the roads through the mountains are fun and very scenic. You can even take a long way from Gatlinburg through Townsend and on to the dragon for possibly the best drive I've ever been on. If you are going to be here for a couple weeks, there is a monthly "Cars and Coffee" here in Knoxville with some interesting cars. The "worlds fastest Lamborghini" is local here and has shown up lately with his 1500hp Underground Racing twin turbo Gallardo that is pretty impressive. Sounds like it could be a fun trip, especially if you could get a ride in a turbo Cayman at TPC!

You have PM.
