Looking at a Body kit
Looking at a Body kit
I love my 03 Porsche Boxster S...but I am thinking of putting a new body kit on it. Any ideas or suggestions???? I am looking at this one..http://www.fiberwerks.com/986_boxster.htm Does anyone know anything about this company?
What other mods can I do?

There is an idea for further modifications... Not sure about the body kit company though.

As you probably know, Fiberwerks is located in Florida. They design and create all of their own products in house. When I spoke with them in the past they seemed like nice, knowledgeable people. Whether or not you like the design of their products is another question. Personally, I think that they did a good job of executing a GT 3 style bumper for the 986. In any case, I can tell you from experience that no body kit project is ever as straightforward as one would think. Regardless of price or prestige, all of these fiberglass body parts require a tremendous amount of fit and finish work in order to make them look outstanding. I've attached some photos of my project.

That GTR kit is *hot*. I'd say jump all over it. As far as modifications go you should check out this site: http://www.986faq.com
Fiberwerks was GREAT to me...
I can speak from personal experience...the Fiberwerks kit I installed on my 99 boxster is super sweet...the install was truly straight forward...the Fiberwerks guys pre-hung the kit components on a Boxster at their shop in FL prior to sending to me...aside from grinding a edge about 1/8" on the driver side skirt (at the pinch weld under the car) for a tighter fit on my car, the parts went on like a glove...seriously, their stuff fits!!!
I will agree to the other poster about kits routinely needing quite a bit of fitment...I still am working out kinks in my 993 kit that I purchased from AIR for my V8 911 project...in their defense, it was supposed to be racing parts and I personally didn't know they would not insure all the lines to match up uniform. Has been a painful process on that car...I was hoping for a clean look.
Feel free to message me and I'll give you my phone number if you want to hear more about the Boxster kit install (from Fiberwerks)...Karl was awesome to work with and it was a home run for me in a full Saturday in my shop. I have to guess that the fitment comes as Karl is not making molds of other aftermarket parts out there but rather making custom one-offs right there in their place...so many compliments from jealous stock boxster owners around here (not a big Porsche showing, so lots of people are just curious and look at it for a while as an exotic - <lol>).
I'm currently ordering a Zeintop...which has been many months now since I paid in full and have not received my product...have been told they are making design changes...lucky me on the timing I suppose...will post pics when complete...now if I just had a 3.4!

Isn't this car seen on Fiberwerks website in front of TPC Racing? http://www.fiberwerks.com/_borders/IMG_2809.jpg

Love my GTR body kit!
Still one of my favorite upgrades since I started modding my car out. I have had the bumper and rockers on for over a year now and no problems at all, the rear wing which I bought from them has been on for two years now. It really is a superb kit and fitment was great.
Anyhow, I think there are other forum members who have installed this kit too on their 986 Boxster, as well as the 996 Carrera. You should be able to do a search to see some of the other vehicles. I have some pretty nice shots of my car posted on Cardomain if you wanna see some of the mods I've done along with Fiberwerks GTR kit installed.

Please keep us updated and post some pictures when you finish with your body kit/mods.
I'd get the 986->987 upgrade kit instead. Replaces your front fenders and bumper so you can put the 987 lights on it. for kicks you can even replace the front bumper to a gt3 one. On the rears you can upgrade your lighting system too to LED since I think the 986's don't have all the crazy error messages and your car will look way updated.

That sounds like a lot of money and work, and for what? I personally didn’t want a 986 posing as a 987. I bought a ’98 Boxster for 12k last year, added the GTR Aerokit and a set of after market Turbo style wheels and had people taking pictures of the car constantly, making comments like “that’s the best looking Porsche I’ve ever seen” everywhere I went in the car. It drew onlookers even at the grocery store and gas station. The car was a celebrity! I can’t imagine that a “987 look” 986 could do the same or even a real 987. And I only spent around $1700 on the kit. That was a steal. I got the itch for a 911 (which I’m in the market for now), so I decided to sell the Boxster. It sold the first week advertised for $17,500, which was my asking price. Remember, I bought the car for 12k. I got an email from the new owner just this week. He said an ’06 987 parked next to him and the owner thought his 986 was newer than his ’06. He couldn’t believe that the car wasn’t some new factory Porsche special edition Boxster. I know that sounds crazy, but I know it’s true since I had even Porsche Club people say the same type of things to me at Porsche events. I’m now looking for a 996 to put the Fiberwerks GTR kit on. Can’t wait! Fiberwerks used some of the pictures that I sent them on their website. It’s the silver car with the Turbo wheels.
