Very specific question about Boxster/997

For those who have experienced both (manual tranny), how does the shift quality compare? I understand they both use the same shift lever mechanism, but the cables must be longer to get around the Boxster engine. Does this make it feel any less precise?

i have both right now. If anything, the shift on the Boxster seems crisper. It is probably my imagination, but I can feel or hear no difference

Never noticed any difference in any 6-speed 986,996,987,997. GT2 is a little more solid feel from Steel syncros & different linkage

I have both right now (both 2009 models) and the shifter on the 997.2 is very "notchy" and "clunky" (especially when not warmed up and especially the 1st to 2nd gear shift) compared to the 987.2, which is "smooth as butter."

I have one of each at the moment and fine the Spyder to be smoother and less notchy. The GT3 is very percise and quite notchy, at least it seems that way to me.

my RS 60 with the OEM shortshifter is a lot more fun than the 2009 Turbo i drove w/o a short shifter - had it for 4 days from the dealer and tranny otherwise seemed pretty hard to differentiate

If you are looking for a more precise shift I would look into 986 Swift Short Shift kit. We have installed a few and customers seem to love them.
