the rebirth of a 2.5.... warning: build thread
Hey guys... im posting this here because I thought some people would enjoy this as much as my self. A good friend of mine has a 97' Boxster, that has been held in his family since new. Its a tip tronic model, probably not very desired by many... but its a nice car to drive everyonce in a while if you learn to appreceate it for what it is.
He called me up one day... and asked me what would I do with it if I were in his position... basically it came down to this: Sell and forget it ever existed, or keep...restore and mod the hell out of it. You see, in the U.S its fairly easy to sell these types of cars, and move on to something better, nicer... faster, etc. But where this car is located, venezuela... cars like this are a dime a dozen, and only attract to a certain crowd of people, so that means they are hard to sell, and even harder to replace with something else if you are able to sell, this meaning that most people here who buy these type of cars, intend to keep for a long, long time.
So after a little chit chatting, researching and brainstorming... in a few days we came up with a nice mod-list and it got down to ordering all the parts from the U.S, and shipping them down to Venezuela.
The idea behind this project isnt to create a road racer, or anything of that sort, just build a car that you would want to drive out on a nice night, or take on a road trip and just enjoy the country road... etc.
Enough chit chat and down to the mod list:

The car should be going into the body shop in a couple weeks for a full re-spray and color change, get the new bits and pieces for the exterior installed... as well as giving the interior a nice cleaning and re-freshening... along with installing all the new bits and pieces for it as well.
After that, we will be addressing the maintenance, which we have a long list of "to-do" things, and the intake, headers, exhaust, brakes and new suspension will be installed.... along with the new wheels and tires which should be here by then.
For now, ill leave you guys with these two teasers......

hopefully, will be updating very soon
well... here is another teaser as far as the interior goes, got an email from DCT motorsports letting me know the steering wheel is done and just shipped out! this is the last piece of the interior that was missing in order to put everything together

Wow I am excited to hear about this project. I intend on keeping my 2000 2.7tip boxster forever. Looking to do a similar project on this car. So far I have done a 997 GT3 style front end conversion + GT3 style rear bumper + Gemballa style rear deck spoiler + Porsche PSE muffler + 3 spoke steering wheel while leaving Interior stock. If the motor blows one day I will be looking for LNengineering engine upgrade to keep this car alive.
I would take the L&N route first and foremost to include IMS upgrade, thermostat, spin on oil filter at the very least. Plus I'm not sure 19s on a 97 is a good idea, especially considering Porsche says the car wasn't built to handle 18s.
well, after lots of waiting for parts, shipping and what not.... the car is finally seeing some real progress, these shots were taken about a week ago...

Audio install is complete....
Pioneer headunit:

MB Quarts components in the doors:

MB Quart 12" sub in custom enclosure facing down ( box gets nicely hidden by floor matt):

MB Quart 5 channel amp:

We originally intended to use the same 5.25" MB Quarts components for the doors and dash, but in the hopes of keeping it as clean-oem looking as possible, we did not use the MB Quarts in the dash and in stead used some readily available 4" Alpine coax speakers.... I have to say that i was skeptical at first as I thought the Quarts would completely over power these, but once I heard it all dialed in I was completely wrong... its first time I have any experience with these 4" alpines, and I will be considering them in future projects when a 4" speaker is needed.
Car is now at the body shop getting a full re-spray, where the body kit and new lights will be installed.... The Calipers are also getting powder coated red.

project has been put on the back burner for some time, getting some other projects rolling, but im glad to say that some real progress has finally been done... the car is completely re-sprayed and we are now in the process of putting everything together to wrap this project and take some final pictures of it, stay tuned!

Great build. I will admit my only beef is you didn't take advantage to replace the headlight with either 996.2 or 997 units. The 996.1/986 headlights really hold back some amazing builds I've seen.
it was within my plans, but the owner for some reason decided not to..
on this car cant say yet since they have not been driven on since being installed
but my experience with KW V1's is that they ride alot like an H&R spring / Bilstein sport shock combo... basically a very compliant street-friendly sporty drive, if you know what I mean, with the added bonus of height adjustability.
