Advice needed: Fabspeed Race exhaust for Spyder
Advice needed: Fabspeed Race exhaust for Spyder
if anyone can tell me how I need to proceed with this I would appreciate it. I really like the Fabspeed Race Exhaust for my Spyder but I'm not sure how it will affect the Porsche Sport Exhaust. Will it delete that function completely? Is the PSE system in the exhaust or before it, after the cats?
Jay the Fabspeed Race Exhaust is a cat-back exhaust system that completely replaces the OEM muffler and secondary catalytic converters. You will lose the dual-tone functionality of the PSE system with the Race Exhaust. Also the Race Exhaust is very aggressive and if you have the PDK transmission, you will have increased resonance/drone inside the cabin.
If you want to increase the power/sound and maintain the dual-tone of the PSE muffler, install the Sport Headers. These include 200 cell HJS tri-metallic sport catalytic converters that are emission compliant and will not set the CEL.

Thanks for the info. I really wanted the race exhaust...not looking to replace headers and cats. I drive with the PSE on all the time anyway so maybe I will have to give it up for the race exhaust. Would that set off a CEL?
No, no CEL. These are catback exhausts. Full system (including headers without cats) will set off CEL unless you flash your DME.
BTW, Fabspeed race is awesome. I have it on my Boxster S and will be putting it on the Spyder I'm getting.
One word of caution: it's VERY loud. It's also a must-have for the track (IMO). OK, that was more than one word. lol. Also, there is a LOUD booming drone between ~2200-2900 RPM's. You'll have to change your driving style if you tend to live in this range. If possible, I'd recommend getting a ride with someone who has a Fabspeed race exhaust before the purchase. If it's too loud/drone-y for you, get the Maxflow exhaust.

I think I'm going for it. I had an Eisenmann race exhaust on my MB CL and it was exactly what the car needed. I'm looking to get a much more aggressive sound from my Spyder. I don't drive the car very often and when I do it's usually top-down so if there is any drone in the cabin I wont notice. The PSE is a neat function but I've never been in a situation where I needed the exhaust to be quieter!

Vetman thank you for the compliments! When you get the Spyder give us a call you will need new inlet pipes. The muffler bypass/tips will fit no problems.
Jay I will PM you a 6Speed price for the Race Exhaust with tips. Do you prefer the polished or black chrome tips?

That's what I have on my spyder
There Is a little drone in the mid range, but that's the price you pay for more power and I get ALOT of compliments on the sound of the car from people outside
Great customer service as well.... The heads and high flow cats don't set off the cel? Maybe I should get those too... Can I get more info and pm a price?

I just hit you back with shipping price.
Shahul thank you for the compliments! The Sport Headers with HJS tri-metallic catalytic converters will not set the CEL and they are emission compliant. Combine these headers with the Race Exhaust and the resonance/drone will increase in the cabin by a few decibels. I will PM you a price of the Sport Headers.

Shahul are you a Raven's fan?
Last week Fabspeed had a previous customer stop by for the installation of the Maxflo Sport Headers on his Boxster Spyder. We installed the Maxflo Muffler back in the winter and the customer was looking for more sound/power. The Sport Headers feature the German imported 200 cell per square inch tri-metallic 200 cell sport catalytic converters which are emission compliant with no CEL's. Here's a video of the Spyder with the OEM headers/Maxflo Muffler and the Sport Headers/Maxflo Muffler along with a DB measurement of this sound increase:

Torrey Smith should have a breakout year, I'm still a big Anquan Boldin fan but he's been slow to produce on the Ravens. Let's see how the Saints play with the suspensions this year plus loosing a big WR in Meachem -- opens up the door for my man Marques Colston!
