Lack of Power
Need help, Power loss
I bought my 98 986 a little over a year ago. It's a manual with only 36k miles so it's done a lot of sitting. I made a 600 mile drive home through mountains when I first picked it up. I was staying about 60 mph through the mountains and when it started going up a hill I noticed it had slowed down some, when I went to give it more throttle I noticed I had it to the floor and it was still slowing down. Now this was not a very steep hill so I knew it shouldn't have a problem. I turned off the cruise control and completely let off the gas and when I gave it gas again it had no problem going up the hill so it was just like I wasn't giving it any throttle. The car runs and sounds smooth and great. No misses or sputters. I don't have mountains where I live and never take it out of town so I've not noticed the problem again but the other day I raced my brother in his 2003 S-type 6 Cylinder 16 second 1/4 mile Jag and we were dead even. So I know my cars not running at full potential. Any suggestions?

We went from a 20 punch and I started in 1st. I do know many people will shift at 3k rpms or just hit the gas in 5th and think they're racing is why you ask but yes I have raced many cars and I took it to redline and quickshifted. Even at that with the difference that the two cars are suppose to run I should've been able to hit the gas in third at a 20 punch and still should've walked.

i bought a brand new po in 09 and my first question on a forum was "where is the beef" [as in power] my next question was "where is the hand crank" [so i could clear the cylinders of oil to stop the smoke on start up ]it did not go over big with the po owners

but very well made
Well keep in mind there's never been a year that Corvette has been as fast as Porsche. Don't get me wrong I love Vettes and always will but Porsche has always been a better/faster car. Now Corvettes are no doubt more bang for the buck and as far as that goes no other car can compare for the money.
That's something I would do but unfortunately I am hundreds of miles from a dyno and hundreds more from a Porsche mechanic.
