Are Boxsters lame?
Are Boxsters lame?
Ok, so I had a black 2001 Boxster, I loved the car, but some jerk told me Boxsters are lame. Well i'd like to have a 911, or heck a Carrera GT but I liked that little car and it was fun to drive in the summer with the top down. THe entry price, especially for a used one, is pretty low, so are boxsters a cool ride or what, I think so!
I have owned a bunch of cars in the past two years.
Audi S4
2 Audi TRRS's
Audi R8 V10
Aston Martin Vantage V8
Aston Martin V12
Guess what? My Boxster S (Limited
edition orange) was one of my favourite cars of the bunch. Such a great drive, with sport exhaust it sounds amazing. At the track they do really well.
If you are judging a car by how it drives and feels, the Boxster S is an amazing car. If you judge it by how it can help compensate for you lack of confidence, less so.
They do have a little brother image, caused by living in the shadow of the 911. But judged on their own merit, I love them. What else gives you the Boxster experience??
Enjoy your car and stop listening to posers.

Gimme a freakin' break.
I'm a 911 guy but I have to chime in here... anyone who says Boxsters (or Caymans for that matter) are "lame" or "girls cars" or some other silly put down is either a moron or not really a car enthusiast.
Both vehicles drive exceptionally well and if we're being honest with ourselves, are really all the sports car that 99.9% of the population could ever really need or use.

I once heard a line, "Opinions are like a$$h*les, everyone has one. Doesn't mean it means anymore or less."
Have fun and enjoy what is yours. I'm sure many of us on here have owed a few vehicles over the years. We bought each car with unique needs and characteristics in mind for ourselves. At the end of the day, you paid for it and you get to enjoy it =).

Heh I was thinking about this today....again. Clearly the boxster is not a gt2/3 or a Ferrari or lambo. But it is a fun car to drive. That said as my coworker so often tells me it is not in that exotic class. But it is a sports car, and it is a Porsche, and a really good one at that. Personally I have been yearning for either a lotus (more exotic) or a Cayman (just a newer car, and I think it has more looks/style). But my yellow 986 gets comments and looks, even here in CA where boxsters aren't uncommon as daily drivers. It does live in the shadow of the 911 as mentioned...you'll have to decide if it bugs you or not. Of course the 981 might change a lot of that ..well have to see... I think most people who think they are lame just haven't drive one, or don't understand that raw hp doesn't always mean better.
I am a fan of a slight derivative of that line which goes: "opinions are like a$$holes... everyone has them, and we all think everyone but ours stinks"

Great post.
I have never gotten a negative comment about my Boxster Spyder. However, I owned a 2004 Corvette Z06 and had people tell me it was a "redneck" car and a "dirty old mans car." It was neither of those but it certainly was a rattle box and Tupperware on wheels...but I loved it just like I have loved my Boxster.
