New Lettering on Rear Deck
New Lettering on Rear Deck
I decided to add the Porsche name to the rear deck of my Cayman S. When the letters arrived at my dealer, they were chrome and not the matted sliver like the Cayman S already on the rear deck. I noticed that the lettering on the New Cayman are chrome so I asked my dealer if they could order Cayman S in chrome and as faith would have it they could and did. The letters were installed today and I could not be happier with the way it looks. The total cost was $194.90 including parts of $136.90 ( lettering ) and labor of $58.50. This also included my PCA discount.
I did the reverse...sort of???
I have an '01 'S'... I ordered the matte silver letters. At least the parts guy thought he did? Turns out, they do NOT come in matte...they need to be painted silver matte if so desired. Soooo, I installed the chrome P O R S C H E over the Boxster S, and hit the P O R S C H E with some 1000grit wet or dry and scuffed 'em up real nice then used a Sharpie Paint pen on my finger and 'rubbed' the silver metallic on each letter one at a time. Looks pretty good. Different for sure.

I also opted for a smaller lettering part#...I believe it's a Cayenne part#? More subtle...

Oh yeah....the letters came slightly arched to follow the contour of the decklid...I removed them all (from their backing) and applied one at a time in a totally 'flat' line. I was going for a more unique look.
Also, by sanding and painting just the top....it lends itself to a 3D look as you stand in a certain light. The edges are all still chrome. My car has silver wheels, and really NO chrome anywhere.
