Potenza RE50A

Has anyone has an experience with these Bridgestone tires. They came on my 2011 Spyder. The 2008 Cayman S that I traded for the Spyder had Michelin Super Sports and I was very pleased with them. Both handling and tire ware were excellent. My Porsche dealer tells me these Bridgestone's are really good tires but not as good as Michelin's. Any input would be appreciated.

I had earlier Potenza RE's on my 2000 S2000. They were great till around 11k miles when I got caught in the rain. I was reminded of the feeling when I did Bondurant's 3 day course and was in the skid car. Ha! On my second set of Pilot Sports on my 987S. Great tires. Your Bridgestones should be just fine. Porsche doesn't OE crap on their vehicles.

Thanks so much for your input. I was beginning to think no one was going to reply. I must say I was surprised to see the Bridgestone's on my Spyder. All of my other Porsche's have worn Michelin Super Sport's. I will definitely go with the Michelin's when the Bridgestone's are shot.

Thanks. I can't remember ever being this excited about a car. I actually go into the garage several times a day a night just to look at it. Must be some kind of new sickness I have acquired or could it just be its a PORSCHE.

I love the Spyder. And I love the new 981s'. I debated about ordering one but decided to put a bit of $$ into my 19k mi '05 987s, which I purchased new. I'm 65 and still working (and enjoying it), but after 68 vehicles over the years I need to cool the 'new' obsession or I'll still be working at 90.

Fortunately I was able to retire at 66 but I still keep spending like I was still working. Hard habit to break.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm actually quite glad and happy that you love your Spyder so much! I love mine too!

Be ready for people of all shapes, age, and size to come over and fawn over your Spyder. It's especially a hit at Porsche events. Everyone (OK, slight exaggeration ) comes over, asks questions, remarks on what a beautiful car it is, says things like "it's the best looking car Porsche ever made/made in recent memory", inquire about the GT2 sport bucket seats, etc., etc. (OK, maybe it's not as cool when some women say "oh, it's so cuuuuuute!" )

I'm sure you'll get even more attention since you do concourse. And your Spyder is an exceptional example. Love, love that basalt black with the red & black interior and sport bucket seats!

Beautiful timeless design, sport suspension, lightweight, minimalistic (well, at least in spirit), incredible handling, FUN car... what's not to love? Embrace the manual top and don't let it bother you! (I only say that because the manual top seems to be, IMO, the main reason why Spyders change hands so much).

True recent story: I was at a gas station in VA recently when an older lady comes in and asks whose car the white Porsche is. I kind of shyly replied that it's mine. She exclaims (in an almost Hamptons or Audrey Hepburn accent): "oh, it's the most BEAUUUUUUUTIFUL thing I've ever seen in my life!!" You wouldn't believe the face-splitting ear-to-ear grin that I had!!

Went to our monthly Peachstate Porsche club social last night and when my wife and I were leaving there were no less than 30 member swarming all over my Spyder. Much to my chagrin my wife invited several women to try out our sport bucket seats. My stomach was doing flip flops as they were getting in an out. Though I would have a heart attack right in the parking lot. Fortunately nothing got scratched. On the ride home I asked my wife to not do that again. Of course I said please. Don't know why I am so **** about this car. I guess I just can help it.

Cant comment on your style of driving...

but Ive been using the Bridgestones since they came on my CS when I bought it new. I even stayed with them when I got wider wheels. Its been 5 years....and after having tried Michelins(as well as on other 'fast' cars) although theyre great, and lighter then the Bridgestones, Ive always found a point when they get 'greasy' where my bridgestones dont. On average yes, Ive swapped them around 12k miles, although Ive had great performance and theyre a bit cheaper than the Michelins. Next up Im going for RE-11's assuming they make them in the size I want by now. Other than that, thankfully our cars arent absolute pigs, and Ive heard of great success with yokohamas and the like...

+1 Michelin Super Sports
They are pretty sweet tires, a little stiffer sidewall from their previous design you can feel you good feed back. But, they have better grip and seam to have improved tread life and cheaper too? Don't find that offend today.
