Question 2008 Porsche Cayman S Price estimate

I'm currently looking to buy a Porsche Cayman S but I'm not knowledgeable enough on that subject to know if the prices are reasonable. One of the ones that I really liked is at 51k miles but priced at 36k. I've researched a bit and that seems a bit high. Is the asking price reasonable and if not what should it be around?

The link isn't working. If you're looking at a '08 I would strongly consider a '09 at that point. Updated interior and different engine, but it all depends on your budget.

I updated the link. How much does a 09 Cayman S generally go for?

I haven't looked in a little while, but I thought they were just slightly higher (4K or so) then what your currently looking at. The problem is the '09 was a lower production year then '08 or first gen Caymans so they seem to get scooped up pretty quickly.

Here is a link that gives you some great numbers and reading information: http://caymanregister.org/faq.php?fa...aq_2009caymans

Would a 2009 Cayman be better than a 2008 Cayman S?

Have you driven both? If you haven't I would consider doing that first, it all comes down to if you want that extra boost in HP or not. I personally think the Gen 1's are a great car, but you're so close to Gen 2's for that money.

I've only driven a gen 1. I'll look into the second gen. Anyways, what do you think of the asking price for the white 2008 Cayman S?

I looked at said car today. I definitely wouldn't rate the quality as excellent. The seller insists that the asking price is accurate. Can someone give me the run-down on those figures?

Price is way too high for the year, mileage, condition, etc. You can get a much better deal by searching around and being patient.

So what should the price be for that specific car?

KBB says $32,825.00 private party retail . Because its an automatic and no Xenon lights package or Sport Chrono package (my 2 favorites ) and the fact that at 60K you have to do the main belt and the 60k service and like others have said this is a gen 1 and the 09 is much improved i would not go over $31.000.00 and I would only do 31K cause the color combo is good .White with Black interior . Personally I would never but an automatic Porsche car ,it just takes away most of the fun for me cause i am like a kid and like to burn rubber and control my RPM's Step to a 09 or above and it could actually save you money in the long run and hold better value when you want to re-sell .
Go find a 09 for under 40k is my opinion .don't be Cheep when it comes to buying a Porsche Cayman or you risk getting burned-09 and up has the resolved IMS failure

Thanks for the response. I looked on autotrader and the only 09s for under 40K were base models. Is an 09 Cayman better than an 08 cayman S (besides the re-sell value)?

Talking

Yes in some ways - the 09 and up have a slightly different motor with Increased HP by 15 and a few different cosmetic changes such as different front bumper-Rear Bumper -outside mirrors are larger nothing crazy until you get to the 2014 model .
after doing some more research today I really don't think the IMS bearing issue is a determining factor at all -less then 1% is what I read so its blown out of proportion by company's that profit on the fear of this issue more then anything . as a owner of a 07 with 89k on it and I drive the crap out of my car and its never had 1 single issue ever ,not 1
I now think if you are happy with the Automatic then try and get this car for 34 and I will say tops 35K because I am still seeing 06 and 07 models selling for over 30 k . If you do not intend on tracking the car and you are only going to drive less then 10k per year go for it. before you buy go to planet9.com and look in the classifieds there .planet9 is more hardcore Cayman - I love 6 speed though because of it large variety . good luck
