A/C Failing?

03 Box S with 69,000kms. A/C snowflake and fan quits blowing for about 2-3 sec then comes back on. What is on the verge of failing? Compressor? Entire heating/cooling system? Thanks JP

There can be a number of possible things acting up. A tech with the proper diagnostics computer can query the HVAC controller for any error codes.

About all I can offer is the system may be low on refrigerant probably due to a leak.

The car is an 03. Have the radiator ducts ever been cleaned out?

Thank you for your response. I'll have my guy check the freon? level. But I was confused by the a/c stopping(snowflake gone) and the fan stopping at the same time. I've seen compressors quit or the freon dissipate but that didn't seem to affect the other system. The radiators were cleaned about two years ago. Dusty place though. Thanks again.

I was also told it might be a failing ignition switch. But that seems ok with no change with a wiggle.

IF it is the ignition switch, there is a cheap audi substitute that you could try -see Pedro's garage.

It turned out to be a failing switch in the control head. I had to replace the entire a/c(heater) control box to get it fixed. Works great now. Painful, though$$$$$.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to read about the $$$$$. How was the failing switch identified?

Apparently they took the switch out and cleaned it some how and it worked for about a week. Then back to the failure mode which was on and off and inconsistent time intervals. So we knew it was the a/c switch in the control head.
