2016 Boxster Spyder

So, what are your thoughts. I think the car looks amazing, and is a good price point. My local dealer has offered me their first and possibly only allocation.

I have built a pretty impressive unit if I do say so myself. No carbon seats, but just about everything else. MSRP of 108k.

Would replace my 911 C2 Cabrio. I realize I am going from a 911 to a Boxster, but I really do not see anything wrong with that. The Boxster is a nice car too, and very underrated in my opinion.

Anyone else have one on the radar? Thinking about one?

Thanks guys, have a good weekend.

Mike

There is nothing at all wrong with that! I know that boxsters are a joke to some but the current gen is nothing short of amazing, especially the spyder.

I agree, the Boxster is an amazing roadster, mid engine, well balanced and and hoot to drive. The Spyder has a manual top if that doesn't bother you, can't argue with 375hp on a 3,000 lb car. I think the 981 Boxster looks a lot better than a 991 Cabriolet. The Boxster was designed as a roadster, the cabriolet was designed as a coupe with it's top chopped off, big difference.

THAT is enough right there. Ready for the hate but my personal opinion has always been to only buy a car in a convertible, if it ONLY comes in a convertible.

Any word as to present general availability for special orders? Is the full production already all taken like that of the GT4s?

I have the 2011 model spyder and I think the roof is th least understood thing about the car. All the whiners complaining they cant put the top up in 30 seconds, etc etc etc.

The existing top has one amazing party trick that no one talks about. You can put the top up, remove the rear and side curtains, drop the windows, and you now have a car that feels like you are a part of the lements, without the sun baking you.

You can't do that with a regular convertable (except Jeeps with bikini tops). The wind, the smells, the exhaust, the flapping of the thin canvas roof. It is all glorious.

I find this car makes speeds seem faster.

Does anyone know if the new car will have the same ability?

It's like a modern, crazy-fast iteration of the old 356 Spyder. What's not to love? I wish it had dawned on me to look for a 986 RS60 Spyder when I was shopping for a 997; that would've been brilliant! the 987 Boxster Spyder was a bit out of my budget for now.

I'm pretty sure it won't. From what I saw on a recent review, people complaining about the original spyder top not sealing from the elements made Porsche change the design. Now it's a basic Boxster roof with flying buttress type extensions on it, but I think it's manual instead of power to save weight. You can't see it from a normal view, but from the right angle, it looks really weird.
