I am not aware of anybody that makes one for the 987 Boxster/Cayman. IMO it handles pretty good and unless you are planning on turning it into a full on race car or drive it at 10/10 on the track you should never see the difference on the street.

I think that adding an LSD you would only void the warantee of the transmission...

I am an ex BMW owner. I have pretty much heard any excuse a dealership can come up with!

I'm 47.5% sure the cayman has an LSD as an option

could be wrong though

with that said, I can't believe they didn't include LSD on this car, let alone the S version. Then again, I bet if they had, san fran would be blowing up w/ LSD equipped caymans and everyone will be seeing purple monsters comming out of the passenger seats. sorry

This may be BS but it sounded believable. I heard that adding the LSD would have gotten the Cayman's track times to close to the 911 for comfort. Anyone else buy that?

Not close, the Cayman Kicked the 911 Carrera S But.

The cayman tested 4 seconds faster at the Ring with the LSD.

911 Sales would have stalled imediately.

As far as I am concerned it stalled my sale.

Mid Engine is the Way Porsche need to go. As soon as the OLD GUYS move on, Even if Porsche have to wait for them to die of old age, then the young guns will come in and make a 911 Mid Mounted TT.

That will decimate all in its path.

But it may take a few of us guys to mod the Caymans and get the LSD's and start Handing the 911's their a$$ so to give the Young guns at Porsche the credibility they deserve.

I'm all for a Mid Mounted 911. Its long over due.

Get rid of the back seats, MID mount the Motor, even make the rear Flip like the Cayman and have room for two sets of clubs and must have a TT option, and where do I SIGN?

911 Should be the No.1 Performance vehicle out there.

But it is constantly being erroaded by Super Sedans.

I would hate to own a 911 996 anything and have a V-10 Family sedan pull up beside you at the toll gates packed with his family.

As he speeds off and gets in front of you in comfort and with his family, will it comfort you to know that If you went to the track you would beat him through the corners?

I think not.

You should beat HIM EVERYWHERE.

MJ

LSD for Boxster/Cayman

A LSD made an unbelievable difference on the (986) Boxster S, so I expect it will on the Cayman as well, once you stiffen up the suspension. Acceleration out of coners is so much better I was blown away.

The got you is that the 986 Boxster uses the Porsche transaxle case (Audi gearbox internals) but a G50 Diff, so a LSD was no problem, where as the 987 Boxster/Cayman use a Getrag gearbox with unknown diff (yet).

The PET doesn't show any gearbox internal parts (yet) however the TipTronic does show 986 diff components, so... maybe it's still a G50 diff?

The 997 uses a japanese made gearbox (same supplier as the Cayenne), but due to some problems they didn't go that route on the Boxster (project apprently finished later and allowed the switch of suppliers).

Bobby Hart at California Motorsport (Lake Havasu, AZ) should have the answer.
