Exhaust and wheel spacers
Exhaust and wheel spacers
Hi guys, well I guess the mod bug just never ends!!
Is time for a nice decent exhaust and probably by pass for our 03 boxster S at home.
We pretty much narrow down to 2 choices. A) GHL exhaust (after hearing so many excellent comments about it and B) Super sprint.
Not interested in Fabspeed because it isn't that much louder and don't really like the design of it either.
Please give some input as to what you guys think is better. I know power gains aren't so much into play since these are NA cars but 1 more pony is 1 more and everything counts. I really really want to chase down that Cayman S but with the stock setup is really difficult and I know it takes a lot so this will be a little project.
Secondly we are planning to get a set of spacers for both the front and rear. We currently have the optional Carerra narrow 5 spoke rims but find the stock offset is a little too conservative. What would be the best size spacer to get?
Thank you for your advice.

given equal driver, a boxster S, 996 3.4L have absolutely no chance against a cayman, you need super or turbo charger. given a 996 3.6, it will be a tight fight. exhaust and headers are waste of money. unless you are racing and are after the last 100'th of a second, those wont make ANY difference.
seat time on a track, expertly set up REAL coil overs like JRZ, Motons and sticky tires will do the trick.

Ah, i knew that is gonna pop up so i m just gonna give a quick explaination. I have been on the track for about 6 years now and aprox 3 years ago i got a professional amateur racing license. That being said i think i have had a lot of track time so that leave it out of the question THOUGH i think there are still lots to learn. However, i have no doubt that the Cayman driver is just as good as me. Maybe that was also my first time driving the Boxster S so i m not too familiar with it either. If i have enough seat time i m sure to be able to drive that thing even crazier.
So lets stay back into the topic, GHL or Supersprint and what size wheel spacer is suited for this car?

got it kinessis. b/n GHL and supersprint, i prefer the GHL, much better made. though i dont know the HP improvement difference. there are plenty of ppl making headers for the boxS, add that to your shopping list. again, based on your experience i would suggest splurge on a set of moton clubsport, you would not belive the difference, it will give your boxS over 3 degs of camber if you likek and with some heim joints, and a tad of toe out, your car will be telepathic.

JIC's are nice.

My instructor a couple of days ago was very impressed with my 2000 S. Would have been even better with the correct rear tires. Oh well...
About the GHL, virtually everyone I talk to and all of the internet threads say the 2300-2700 rpm resonance is pretty bad. Of course, bad is relative. They would probably sound pretty good compared to my setup (no muffler). If you do a fair amount of freeway driving the resonance will absolutely kill the enjoyment factor. I'm on the hunt for a lightweight quiet muffler. I have a sneaky suspicion that there probably is a violation of some law of physics that would have to occur for one to exist.
Bro
ETA: 986forums sucks donkey weenie. Those guys think putting wider than stock rims and tires will make the car handle worse.

Well i think with most of the "louder" exhaust, resonance is expect but i m not going to complain because i like loud exhaust. It just makes it extra fun to drive a stock S! With the top down and the exhaust note...man i can't WAIT!
Gonna drop in the EVO intake most likely and i don't really know what to expect from that. Do you have any experience with that intake? I have heard some good reviews about it and the price seems fairly resonable.
Yah JIC are freaking dope! How much did u get yours for and what is your spring rate?
