EBMCS03 is infamous around these parts
Boxster is a 986, what is the Cayman?
Is the Cayman a 987? I've seen the Boxster as being refered to as a 987 too so I'm not sure what the Cayman is.

Can anyone clearify?

First generation boxster is the 986.

Second generation boxster AND cayman are 987.

Yes, it is 987 based. Does it have a special code, like 987.01 or something?
