Boxster S smokin tailpipe problem

My wife's Boxster S smokes out the tailpipe for 10 seconds after cold start. The dealer says this is normal. What do you all think?

I usually smoke right before I go to bed. Doctor says this is normal.

(putting hand to forehead) ... IIRC, my '94 SHO had this problem, and it was .... piston rings??? I honestly forget, but somehow oil was seeping past somewhere where it shouldn't seep past, and once the car warmed up and parts expanded into place, everything was fine.

Try posting this on renntech, or just wait for Toolpants to come back around here. I think Toolpants is a Boxster.

Patrick,

Is it smoke or steam? They all steam out the tail pipe until the cats warm up.

I doubt seriously it is smoke. You'll know when the Air/Oil seperator fails (it will smoke continously when cold)

It is normal. The Boxster will sometimes smoke on start up. If it lasts a long time then something is wrong but if it is just a few seconds after start up it is fine.

All porsches puff black smoke out when they start up after sitting for awhile. A small amount of leftover oil in the valve cover drains down the valve guide and past the seats and into the cylinders. Its normal.

Um.. Ross...

Porsche has used valve stem seals to control oil flow back into the valves since 1990 (if not earlier)

Mine does the same thing. The turbo, however, does not?!....hmmm....
