Cayman S vs. Boxster S????

So which one is the better driving experience? I am looking to buy either of the two, but I am leaning towards Boxster S since its a convertible. The engines are the same, no? and what about exhaust noise? I think the exhaust note of the Cayman S is intoxicating, will I still get that with the Boxster S??? I havent drive both yet, so would like to get opinions from people who have.

I've driven the Cayman S, and was honestly expecting more.. The 997S left quite an impression on me, but the Cayman S was pretty much the same as driving a Boxster S.

The new Boxster S has the same engine (3.4) as the Cayman S... I don't know if it will have the same exhaust note or not, but if not that can be fixed easily. The real question is if you want a roadster or a coupe. You can always get a hard top for the Boxster... I personally would go with the convertible but its your choice.

I'll chime in from just a looks perspective... the Cayman S looks like a completely different car than the Boxster S, regardless of their design being virtually the same. The roof just makes the car look so much more like a 911 than the Boxster ever will, even with a removable hardtop sitting on there. It adds a degree of aggressiveness that isn't present in the Boxster, which looks calm and friendly in comparison.

Night and day difference when parked side by side.

My $0.02.

It all comes down to what you prefer driving most. It is really hard to beat driving with the top down hearing that glorious exhaust note behind your head. In my opinion the Boxster is meant to be driven with the top down, it is hard to beat that experience.

But Josh, YOU LIVE IN SEATTLE!!!!!

Don't you guys get 300+ days of rain a year!!??!!

My $.02. If you need to pick up chicks, want to do lots of track days, and live in Seattle (See note above.) then I say get the Cayman S.

If you want to feel the wind in your hair at 100+ mph, get a Boxster S, change out the exhaust, some coilovers, and enjoy.

(You'll also get to join the Cayman Spyder Club! )

Dave
