Started Installing My Dension IceLink 500

All seems pretty straightforward, if only it worked! Something isn't right but, assuming it's something silly, the install really is a breeze. You uncouple a fiber line, jump the IceLink in to the loop and feed it 12V, that's it!

In my Boxster I tapped in to the ring at the amp. All seems to be wired (fibered?) ok but my head unit (CDR23) doesn't detect a CD changer. I'm fairly confident everything is in place as if there's no power to the Dension the head unit gets upset as though the loop is broken, with it powered on everything works fine except it doesn't detect the (Dension as the) CD changer.

I've emailed support, will post more as soon as things progress.

Chris.

Update:
1. It's working
2. The CDR23 does not support CD Text so the head unit display is all but useless
3. If you don't have a CD Changer already you need to tell the car it has one using a PST2 before it will work
4. The dip switch settings in the manual are not correct for CDR head units, it should be OFF,OFF,OFF,ON
5. Play around for too long and your battery will go flat forcing you to stop and let it charge

Funny I was going to install my Dension in my Cayenne right after I hard wired the Valentine 1 and my battery went dead, apparently these batteries are so hungry the slightest thing will drain them.

Dension hopefully will be installed tomorrow.

It's the IceLink 500 for MOST, I had it working today but as a bit of a ghetto install, I'll tidy up tomorrow and post pictures. The install really is quite straightforward. One note though, if you have a CDRxx head unit and no CD changer the car has to be updated with the dealer computer to tell it there's a CD Changer present.

For my test run I popped the connector out of the Amp, the kit includes male and female versions of the same connector so you can loop right in. I don't want mine in the trunk as I'll need to be able to see the ipod so for now I've removed it and tomorrow I'll jump it in to the loop behind the head unit.

I'm not sure what you mean by splicing, I don't think you can really splice fiber, they supply all the little connectors and so on to join the bits together. There are snap locks on each connector that lock the fiber plug in, quite easy to release once you've fiddled a bit.

I think jcu means where do you tap the line for power/12 volt.

I'm going to use the 986 phone harness. If that isn't an option for you I think I'd get it from the CD changer or fuse box. The power cord isn't fused so I would tap in to a fused supply somewhere.

Okay, I reinstalled from scratch today and it took less than fifteen minutes, I took pictures and compiled them in to a PDF, hopefully this will help reassure people that this thing can be installed easily without any great technical know-how.

Download the PDF here: http://www.radarrack.com/boxster.html

Now, how do we get the 500 in the USA? My distributor is telling me he can't get it.
