Has anyone changed oil and filter on your Cayman? Any significant problems due to the mid engine design? I'm planning a change soon and don't necessarily want to pay dealer prices. I will be using Mobil 1. What oil weight are you using?

Yes it's very easy. There is a DIY on caymanclub. As far as weight I use the 0-40w that the manual recommends. They also have the torque specs ofr the filter and drain bolt on caymanclub. I've done mine at 5k,10k, and getting ready to do it again at 20k.

Thanks for the heads up on the Cayman club site. Looks like a pretty straight up job. I was mostly concerned about the oil filter location from changing my 996TT (top rear of engine). Cayman filter looks to be very accessable. Takes the same cartrage as the 996TT.

I've done it on a Boxster, seems similarly located. No issues with access, in fact, if you have long arms you can reach it without getting under the car. My biggest issue was the tool to get the filter housing off. I originally bought the "6 in 1" tool as shown on the Pelican Parts DIY, it did not work, the plastic cracked immediately. I went back and got a metal removal tool, after that the whole process was a snap.

Good luck.
