Why I bought a cayman.

Just thought cayman/boxster owners might enjoy this read.

http://www.autoracingdaily.com/artic...vauxhall_vxr8/

It may not be the most comprehensive or technical reviews, but interesting nevertheless.

This falls in line with the very reason I bought this car: horsepower wars among bmw m, audi s, and mb amg for the most part will continue to persist, but for relatively light weight connected driver experience, hard to beat.

I think you made an excellent choice. If I was an empty nester, I would drive either a Boxster S or Cayman S as my daily driver with a GT3 in the garage for the "grocery getter".

More HP doesn't equal more fun. The cars are getting heavier, which is good from a safety standpoint but the added weight doesn't always make a fun driver.

Cayman rules! Power power power its all you ever hear. Take a car with some good dynamics any day of the week over an over-powerful pig.

Over which "over powerful pig " do you prefer the Cayman ?

If Power is not important to you, get a Mini . It will drive circles around your Cayman , at less than 1/2 the price. Lol

Wow does anyone else on thie forum agree that that was one of the silliest comments ever made? I belive the Cayman S has been rated faster around a track than the ultra-lite Elise. Minis are cool but no better than GTIs. Where did you come up wiht that comment lol BTW I drive a 996 not a Cayman just a fan a huge fan : )

Everyone of those cars in the test are wayyyyy too heavy lol Im just stating that its a beautiful thing to see something with WAY less power beat up the heavy(piggy) cars with all the horsepower. Typical Porsche.....

Can a single thread on 6speed live on the site without mildly inflamatory or half asinine comments?

The intention was just to show that the cayman is well-received even in the high horsepower wars.

Mini driving circles around a cayman? I owned a modded jcs S for six months, great car, and your mileage may vary, but it was no fluke that I sold it that quickly for the S.

and this is why I love the z4m coupe...

haha

The cayman was a FAR smoother experience and such a blast on clean a/b roads...but...speaking from experience...smooth is not NEARLY as much fun...hahaha

(that said, I obv have to be smooth whith the 996...if not, that thing ends up *** around in a tirewall faster than a spidermonkey to a...w/e)

Im with you Eddie! Great article and thanks for posting I dont know what it is but everyone loves to argue here. Maybe the word "pigs" was harsh but I meant it in the lightest way possible. I love all of those cars : ) Once again it's amazing to see the Cayman the Horsepower underdog just clean up. Thats why there is no substitute : )

Chill out guys. Obviously, he means that a Mini could drive around a parked Cayman (due to the Mini's short turning radius). Kind of like a clown car.

Give the guy a break.

Just sold the Supra last week. My advise is to buy one with most of the work already done. I can cost alot to build these cars right, and you can only recoupe penies on the dollar when you sell.

I sold mine for $30k. There was more then that just in mods.

Why I bought a cayman S: I drove it and I really really liked it...it was that simple.

I like it more than my modded 996 turbo & more than my modded mini S.... Its a blast to drive and I don't even know what it makes for HP, even though I have dyno'd it just for kicks....I don't really care as long as its fun to drive. Sure I could have 1000+ HP...but why. I have a bike they weighs 360lbs and makes 170hp when I want to go stupid fast in a straight line...the cayman is more for when I want to go stupid fast around corners. More Hp wouldn't help it do this any better, really.

the cayman S is a great handling car, but I wish there was slightly more HP. The e46 M3 give you more sense of speed and power. Well mine got exhaust and coilovers on it, when ever I drive the two cars back to back, the M3 just feels more powerful and the neck snapping take off is fun. The cayman's power comes in a refine linear fashion, not as violent as the M3.

xactly...now imagine all the power of the s54, in a body not quite as nimble or "set" as the porsche but with most of the handling...haha...you get a ballsy car...thats what!

that said...I have no idea how porsche made the cayman as smooth as it is...its really amazing...
