Alberta members check in!
LOL. Have fun in Cowtown.
There's a bunch of drives coming up next weekend (20th) for and in conjunction with the Indy race. If you're downtown on Saturday, stop by city hall, there will be a TON of cars for the car show (Enzo, SV, 12C etc etc etc). There's drives on Friday night and at various times on Sat as well.
The cars and coffee stuff is usually every weekend but the location varies. Send me a PM with your email and I'll get you added to the email list.
Once you get to know the guys, we do tend to have a fair few drives, sometimes very large and organized, like the last Porsche Club mystery drive, there must have been 40 cars total. Plus there's other times that are somewhat smaller including maybe dinner or drinks.
Hope to see you out soon.

There's a few of us members from Edmonton that frequent these pages. Good to have you here. You'll have to find yourself out to a Coffee and Cars once the season is amenable to it.
Cheers,

R u a member of the polar region pca too? When would u guys meet normally? I was thinking of getting a tour around few cities around going sometime this summer if possible
I just found out about this portion of the website today. PCA, as you may know has a number of drives and they just sent out an invitation for 3 possible track days at the Castrol Raceway. It looks like we are finally going to have a good size road course in Edmonton!
There will be no racing with PCA in Edmonton, the Polar Region PCA is looking into having some Drivers Education (DE) type events. These will be fun events with qualified instructors and lots of emphasizes on safety and car control.
There will also be some other clubs & groups doing track days during the summer season starting in May of this year. They are just sorting out time & dates with Castrol but should be making announcements very soon.
NASCC will be hosting official races at Castrol, good group of guys. Mostly local grassroots racers with some really nice cars. I ran my 996 Porsche Cup car with them last year at the Edmonton Indy track and had a great time.
I not certain that the Castrol track is suited for the high HP cars, the smaller more nimble cars are going to do much better at castrol, at least on the smaller, phase one section.
Cheers

There will be time trials - these are track days, not DE. See e-mail below. This is for PCA members and the BMW members have been invited as well.
2013 PCA Autocross/Time Trials
“Polar Cup”
The Namao airstrip is no longer available for our Autocross use. We are considering using the new track at Castrol Raceway. However, to make this financially possible, we’d like to determine the interest of Polar club members in supporting this new venue. The details are shown below.
If you are interested in participating, will you please contact Justin Lewicke by email [justinlewicke@hotmail.com] and advise the number of events you’d be prepared to attend. We’d appreciate your response by March 31, 2013, as we will be deciding on whether to pursue this event or not shortly after.
Series Goals:
1. Safety- The number one goal is safety of people and equipment.
2. Fun- Everyone should have fun including participants and organizers.
3. Sustainable- We will aim to break even so the series can continue for years.
Why:
With the budget cuts in the Department of National Defense, we have been informed that the taxiway we have been using for Autocross is no longer available for the upcoming season. The construction of the road course at Castrol Raceway has also been completed (Phase 1), which provides us the opportunity to convert our events to time trials. Phase 2 of the road course will be completed later in the summer and we anticipate that all three configurations will be used for the Polar Cup this year (1.1km, 1.5km, and 2.7 km full course).
Risks:
On track events are inherently risky and this must be well understood by all involved. The Namao autocross layout was exceptionally safe and spins never resulted in any damage. The Castrol Raceway Road Course is an unknown quantity. We trust that the track is as safe as possible, but inherent in any track compared to Namao, there is a higher degree of danger for cars leaving the racing surface. All participants must drive within their capabilities and overly aggressive and dangerous driving will not be tolerated. Driving slowly around the track is O.K. as long as we are having fun safely.
Pricing:
Although firm pricing has not yet been determined, we anticipate the cost range per event will be $120 to $150 per competitor. At this price, approximately 30 participants per event are required to break even.
Dates:
June 4th 2013 – 1.1Km short course
July 23rd 2013 – 1.5Km short course (tentative as construction may not be complete)
August 13th 2013 – 2.7Km long course

I'm helping Justin organize the above events. As Russ (PolarPorsche) said above these will be "fun events with qualified instructors and lots of emphasizes on safety and car control". We will be trying to replicate the experience we provided at Namao but on the road course at Castrol - i.e. 2 cars spaced out evenly on the track at a time, each setting a time for 2 consecutive laps. They will be much more like our events at Namao than say the Speedway time attack events at Stratotech for those that have attended both and can make that comparison. Looking forward to any interest we can generate in the events.
...and a few shots of my track rat since I haven't posted here in forever...
