check engine light on gt3

my CEL came one last week, I took it to Autowerks to reset which they did a fine job and said it was a loose gas cap.

Now it came on again. Does anyone know how to reset the CEL without the OBD tool? Can I just pull the battery for 5 mins or so?

I don't want to bother the guys at Autowerks again for these minor things, but not sure why it keeps popping up.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Fred

Best thing to do is to get an OBDII scanner for like $70 and see what the code is etc... Otherwise yes just pull the -ive off of the battery terminal.

Thanks Alex.

My brother in law bought a sharkwerks exhaust for his RS in HK from you or maybe from a distributor in Hong Kong. He's loving it!

My pleasure The OBDII route is better since you get the code read out and can likely fix it easily that way....

Really glad you're brother-in-law likes it! What year is your GT3? I've got a few sitting here

i got it read out by Autowerks already, a local shop in Toronto, he said it was air in the tank, which usually is a loose cap.

Mine is a 07 RS, as pictured. What do you have? you can pm me.

anything you need to get rid of for a 02 996 C2 as well?

If it was a solid CEL and not a flashing CEL (BAD!), 3 operating cycles will reset it if the condition was corrected (ie: gas cap sealing ring checked and/or replaced). Meaning that you will need to start your engine and drive your car up to operating temp (approx 20 min) 3 times.

yes, it's a solid CEL. I drive it to normal temp all the time. but it doesn't reset itself. I tightened the gas cap. Guess it's not corrected yet? funny thing is it didn't happen for the past month i drove it, just happened when the service light came on.

Well, a solid CEL is not just for a faulty gas cap seal, it could also be other things like an exhaust sensor among other things. If you're sure that the seal on the gas cap isn't twisted, missing or damaged, maybe you should bring it to your dealer.
