Trying to decide, Used turbo or new V6.
Hi everyone. I'm probably parting ways with my RS4 and need to buy an SUV. Coming from the RS4 it's hard to decide wether I should buy an older used Cayenne Turbo or S, or go with a new 08 V6 model. I'm trying to stay around $50k. I've not yet driven any of these and was just trying to get a little input and or personal opinions/experience.
Thank you for any input.

I went through the same dilemma you are in now...wound up buying a used 05 CTT...I don't have it yet...will in about a week or two...in the end it cost me $42k and has 39k miles on it....I think I made the right decision.

Yep it's a Turbo..I searched for quite a while and extensively before making this deal...I think it was a good deal as well...I had Porsche do a full inspection on it before I committed to purchase it and the inspection went without a hitch...just awaiting on delivery now which will probably take another week or two dependng on how busy the transport company is.
i think u should go for the CTT considering ur background '' the RS4 '' u will be more comfertable with its twin Turbos ;P trust me take it from a guy who drove all kinds of the cayenne nothin sweeter then the sound of those twin turbos under the hood ;D
Since you have been driving a damn nice sports sedan, you probably expect some handling in an SUV. I haven't driven a base model Cayenne before so I can't comment on the available power (or lack of). HOWEVER, if you do decide to purchase a non-turbo Cayenne, you MUST have the air suspension, which is an option for those vehicles (Cayenne and Cayenne S). Raising or lowering the vehicle aside, having the air suspension allows you to tune the dynamics of the ride effectively.
The air suspension has 3 modes - Comfort, Normal, and Sport. When I'm driving on a rutted freeway (common is most major California cities) I'm in Comfort-mode. It smooths out the road effectively. When I'm Canyon-carving I'm in Sport-mode. Sport-mode really stiffens the suspension.
One BIG plus with the air suspension - it is has safer handling dynamics than the standard (non-air) suspension. Air suspension is standard on Cayenne Turbos.
Try to test drive both configurations before you buy.

I've got an 08. I really like it. It has plenty of power and smokes my Jeep. The handling and braking are very impressive, and not just because it's a truck.
I guess it depends if you want a hot rod truck or not. If the raw power isn't a necessity, then go for the new one. Something else to consider is warranty. I don't know what you're financial situation is, but it would suck to eat up your budget with a payment and not have a reserve for repairs. Which supposedly the older CTT's had some issues. If I had an unlimited budget and needed a SUV, it would be a brand spankin' new CTT for sure. Love that truck.

I am looking for on 05 Turbo Cayenne. I can get a great deal on an new one but I just want the raw power and getting rid of two toys to get a better one toy
If you want to have peace of mind then I would definately go for the 08. I have one on loaner and its very nice.
I like the new styling updates on it. The taillights and front facia is a big improvement.

I would go with the Turbo hands down. Great vehicle and offers so much more than the 6 or 8 cyl with many standard options and superior dash and headliner. For the money used, these are a bargain. Check out the vehicles history carefully as some earlier ones had minor nagging issues. For the most part they are bullet proof with some owners exceeding 100k miles and limited problems.
I would stay away from the earlier V6's and it is up to you to decide if you like the 08 styling better or not. I find my 04 to be a better looking vehicle than the 08 turbo but like the 08 CS and v6 styling better than the earlier models. To each his own.
Good Luck

i would suggest that the CTT be CPO'd so you are covered if there continue to be rpoblems. it should also mean no accidents. same concept Audi uses on their used products.
to get a V6 with air i suspect that you will have to order ; it is a rare option even on the S.
