Clear Side Markers

I just installed these tonight on my 08 Cayenne S but I was wondering why in the Amber lenses the bulb is inserted in the front area and in the Clear(Euro) they are inserted in the back of the housing? If you are driving next to the SUV and slightly back it's actually very distracting. They plugged the hole in the front of the housing on the clears so you cannot place them up front.

The second screw up top is a BIOTCH to get to. Torx 25 and small socket and it wasn't fun. No room up there.

Were the 1st Gen Side Markers easier to get to? The top screw of the housing has about an inch of room inbetween.

At least it's done. Wheww.

I responded on Renn, but thought I would post it here as well to get my numbers up

Alpine, when I installed the clear side markers on my 08 I punched out the front hole to fit the socket up there. With the lights in the rear of the housing, it looks like a spotlight on your tire (in my view).

I do agree, that was a tight fit!

That is what I should have done. Oh well, it is not worth trying to remove them. Those were some of the hardest bolts that I have ever tried to get to. I have thought about using some VHT window tint spray to tone it down some.

Hey Jenks! Did you meet up with Dion last night?

It was too good of a deal to pass up on the Cayenne. Now I need to find a home for the X5 I didn't have any intentions to get it. But you know how that goes don't you

I got the SUV about 2 weeks now. I will take pics soon when the wheels come in and I make some lowering links for it. It has air suspension and the links are easy to create. Same concept as in my X5.

Give me a shout soon. I was too busy to meet up last night with Dion and them.

We need another Taco Mac or something soon!

invcble - I hear ya brother!! The bottom screw - a breeze. The top screw that sits about an inch from the sheetmetal is almost impossible. My poor fingers!

I guess it was different for the 1st Gens then. I too am thinking of putting a tint on them to tone it down for the poor people who get next to me. I guess the Germans really want people to know when they are driving 100+ that there is a vehicle next to them or they are coming along side one. I noticed they have a reflector by the bulb to bounce it back to the tire area and sides.

If you complete your tint before I do - post some pics. I should have pics up soon.

To keep the brightness down on the clears, hopefully you added a new amber bulb? When mine were first installed (I paid the dealer to swap it during a bigger job where I was already paying for labor), and at first they put the original amber lense clear bulb back in - so clear lense w/ clear bulb - and it looked too bright and all white... when i said, "hmmm, that doesn't look right", they realized they forgot to swap in the Euro amber bulb. A quick fix and it cleaned up nicely, looks good - just make sure you use the amber bulb w/ the clear lense.

I don't have a night pic, but here's the look...

I got rid of the amber bulbs to get rid of the amber color Now why would I want to put in Amber bulbs...

I will just tone down the inner well lights with some tint and it will be okay I think.

Ha! In theory I see what you mean, but the white lense w/ white bulb (to me) looked like a bright lighthouse in my wheel well - drew in too much attention from the eye. The amber bulb is VERY subtle... w/ the clear lense and the amber bulb I felt like I got the clean daytime look I was seeking, and a subtle amber tint at night... the amber bulb under clear lense is about a 50/50 mix of white/amber at night - really not that orange at all. I was trying to acheive the OEM Euro spec look, and this is how they do it. My OEM Euro clears for my 997TT have same config - clear lense w/ amber bulb.

Just performed this yesterdfay fternoon on a client's '08 Cayenne S. I agree about the light but there really isnt much you can do besides for tint the light and even that may not work out to well unless painted. The install of that top bolt is indeed a b%tch. There is no room to get my fat fingers up inside unless I cut them open while doing so. So yes, sore fingers this am, haha.

Will do, I am going to run out to the local auto store in a little bit. If they have some I will do it and post some pics of the process as well as before and after.

How much would the dealer charge me for this if I ask them to do it on behalf of me? In fact, I also wonder how much will they charge me for hardwiring my Valentine V1...

Canberk - expect an hour charge to install the markers. If you choose to do it. It it TORX 25 for the fender liner screws and the marker screws as well.

I do not think Porsche will hardwire your V1. I would let a stereo shop that you trust do that for you. It should only take 30 mins to an hour max to do that. I am tapping into my map light area instead of running down to the fusebox. 6 of one. As long as it works.

Probably about $100..... It is hard to install but not impossible. I would just recommend taking a chair out into your garage. That is what I did.
