OEM Rear Camera

Does anyone know where to get a decent price on the OEM rear Camera?
I have seen them listed for $1700 but that seems a little much.

In the future, I will installing the OE rear camera on my vehicle. I spoke to the Parts Department at my local Porsche Dealership and they gave me a listing of parts to buy. I have a local automotive A/V shop (La Jolla Audio in San Diego, CA) that will help me take care of the integration. La Jolla Audio does sell a license plate rear camera that they've installed on several Cayennes, but I'm opting for the original look. My budget is going to be ~ $2000 USD for the project. This does include painting the trim pieces.

I would be interested in this as well if someone can tell us how it would work. Would it be a plug in play like pre wire system? I cant imagine having to run wire to the front of the car from the tailgate.

I priced it out about 8-10 months ago with Sunset Porsche I believe. It was right around $1000 if I remember correctly.

Installed or just parts?

And is it a plug and play?

I remember it was an expensive option ($1500? $2000?) comparing it to other makes which is usually included when you get the navigation. I have never seen it in person but I do know it automatically extends out below the rear window which is otherwise flush. So I would imagine gettiing this done afterwards would be very expensive with all the parts required. Please do post pics as I am sure many have not seen it in action!

Can you please share the parts list?

Give me some time ... I put the parts list printout on a stack of paper in the office, and you all know what that means!

There aren't too many parts to the kit ... consult your Porsche Parts Specialist if you need the info ASAP.

That was just parts and I could be wrong on the price, it was quite awhile ago. Not sure about the install but I believe you have to remove the headliner and run it that way. I am sure a competent installer that knows their way aroud a Cayenne could do the job. I would imagine it would be plug and play since it is OEM.

As Cannoli has pointed out above, this is quite a project and I don't think most people realized the Cayenne OEM camera requires replacing the trim piece below the rear window. And of course you still have to paint the new pieces.

Then I would imagine either the dealer or an independent shop which has proper equipment (I think its called the PIWIS) to program/enable the PCM.

Yes, should reprogramm pcm with system tester. Also you need install control unit to open/close and power on camera. I did not find connector for this unit separately, I solder wires (about 8) directly to connector pins. You need wiring diagram to make proper connections, also you should route wires to pcm and tv tuner if istalled and into 5th door. All processes take about 6 hours. - all this about 2005 MY, not sure in possibilities to activate video in for camera in cars 3003-2004
