May have been asked, but couldn't find in the search. If my oil light comes on, can I put something equivalent to the recommended 0w50, 5w40 temporarily (like a quart or so). Cause no stores or gas stations that you can 'conveniently' find when in need carry anything of the sort recommeded by porsche. I bought a 5w30 yesterday just in case as I was driving across the state.



I will be buying a case shortly, but was just wondering on the above question.

Its an honest question.. your driving in the middle of the night.., oil light pops up. You cant leave your car there, your low on oil and you only have a few options available at the only gas station in sight. Can one add a oil thats not recommended until they get to where they need to go. Cause the oil that is recommended is only available at the dealership.

This happened to me driving out in the country recently, was wondering what one would do?

 

Seattle996, I guess you can put that oil if the weather conditions are not so bad there, but for once only, not all the times. Also, you can find 0w-40 oil from walmart. It is never too late for learning so don't hesitate to ask anything you want, from the silliest question to the toughest one, just ignore some people

 

I agree with canberk ... we all know and accept that the 955 Cayenne Turbo (don't know about the 957 CTT) will consume oil. With that said, in a pinch, as in you are in a remote area and you only have 5W-30 SYNTHETIC available to you, it will suffice. Don't make a habit of this. Try never to mix manufacturers (Mobil 1 vs Shell) and don't EVER mix synthetic with dinosaur oil.

For all you CTT owners - keep a spare quart of oil in your vehicle at all times!

If you mean standard oil, when you mix it with synthetic it gums up. You cannot mix the two.

 

I'd suggest keeping a quart of the recommended oil in the car, but the running with the wrong oil is by far better than running with no oil. Keep it synthetic and do the next change sooner than the scheduled suggests.

porsche recommends mobil1, however i don't think it's a big issue, since many of those oils come from a single factory

ZTNEDMAN1 - calm down a little would ya. Did you get too much sugar? He asked an honest question. Doesn't matter if he owns multiple cars or not. I hear this question when I am waiting on the service lobby sometimes. I wouldn't call them stupid. I would rather ask someone at the risk of sounding stupid than to be stupid and not ask and get it wrong.

I had to do this recently but I already knew the answer. Guess how? I overheard it and kept that in the memory banks. If not i would have asked that same question and I have owned previous Porsche cars. Always kept spare quarts around. This time I forgot that I used the spare for the other car and didn't replenish. I was out of town. I went to Walmart but they were out so I got a 5w-30 Synthetic to tie me over. I had to use 1 1/2 quarts and the dealership on Monday(weekend problem out of state) told me no worries and just do an oil change when it comes up and don't do one before that to flush it out.
