close to swapping out the CTT for a GTS
close to swapping out the CTT for a GTS
our dealer has a nice Black on black 6 speed manual GTS that has come onto the market. we can probably make a deal but i am still a bit hesitant that i haven't given the auto turbo enough of a chance.
the problem i have is the turbo is a bit disconnected when you drive even using the trip shifter. as well, even though i just broke it in, i find that turbo lag a real PITA. the sport button is always on now, so that helps, but i am used to the 4S which pops as soon as you hit the gas.

You will never get the pop of power with an auto especially with a Porsche. They start in 2nd gear unless you do manual switch. And I always wonder why it feels like night and day with their auto and their manual transmission. I've test driven the GTS in auto and manual. The power difference is night and day. The manual seems like a beast while the auto doesn't seem too different than the Cayenne S besides the nice exhaust sound. On the turbo, there is a turbo lag but once you get it going, seems like it is too fast for you to stop it. For me, I prefer the control of power in the manual GTS over the turbo but that's just me.
beware that the manual GTS will be much slower than your CTT even though the
GTS will FEEL more sporty. Just drive with the sport button on all the time if you can tolerate the sport suspension setting.

08 CTTs can be in Sport mode as well as be able to change the suspension settings. I use sport and normal all the time. Oh and btw the 08's can now be tuned to about 580hp add exhaust and it should go to 600hp, I have mine scheduled for next month.

I had a gts ready for delivery.. but I changed my mind.. picked an 05 turbo instead, I'm not even talking about an 08..
But a manual GTS might cahnge my mind since I havent driven one.. damn life is tough

The GTS is one nice Cayenne but its not going to hold a candle to a new Cayenne turbo. I would much rather wait a second for the power that the turbo has. The GTS is going to feel SLOW compared to the turbo. I would hold onto the turbo for sure.
not sure about the comments on the turbo going faster. in Ontario they impound your car if you are going 50km (30mph) over the dam speed limit.
Subbie - i take it you loose any lag when you do that engine mod work?
the manual shift is like a siren calling; i tested a V6 manual last summer and though it was pretty much useless below 2nd gear it was involving. one of the sales guys at Downtown Porsche in Toronto said the throw on the GTS was a little shorter then the V6 - anyone comment?

This car will be done in about a month. But, I can tell you from the experience I had with an 04 CTT that had the same things done, that the lag is less and the torque is more. Hmm that should be a bumper sticker. I thought it was worth while to do for the 04.
