Porsche Factory Tow Hitch Retrofit

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a factory tow hitch retrofit kit and this is what I found in the box:

First a picture of the box to prove that it was a Porsche and NOT Volkswagen Kit (as most of the part inside look like VW)

Then a picture of the Bumper/Receiver Assembly... This is probably why the kit costs so much more, you actually get a new bumper.

All together I got it for $800 from Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City, CA.

The parts manager is supposed to be getting me the detailed retrofit instructions that the service techs use... If anyone is interested, I can share when I get them.

As you can all see, most of the stuff is Westfalia (VW) parts so maybe someone can get the stuff cheaper through VW.

-Sam

P.S. I should be installing it this weekend, if anyone has any tips, I would appreciate it.

C.Plavan is infamous around these parts
The VW tow package is about 2 inches to short for the Cayenne. A guy bought a porsche tow kit and tried to put it on his Toureg and it was 2 inches too long.... Bumper would not fit.

Got it installed this morning... Took about 3 hours. Hardest Part was figuring out how to remove the interior trim panels to get the tow wiring harness and module plugged in & mounted.

Also, for those hardcore cayenne racer's/autocrosser's the regular bumper is made out of aluminum and weighs ~15 pounds. The tow kit one is steel and has to weigh ~65 Pounds. For those looking for a weight savings here is an easy place to lose some weight.

-Sam

Pics and write up later...
