how do i open just the window on rear hatch?

How do i open just the window on the rear hatch? with the hatch closed and the window open?

vk430gt is infamous around these parts
where the rear windshield wiper is on the window on the center where its rod is a little plastic handle, under there is a little rubber grip, thats the button to open up the hatch.

This is insane if its true. I had the S and GTS for almost 6 months and never new this!

I never had a need to open the rear glass other than to clean the seal.... I stumbled upon this the first week of ownership... Didn't care to read the entire manual either....
