Cayenne Purchase Questions

All,

Looking to get back into Porsches after selling my 911 several years back. This time it will have to be a Cayenne because of family obligations.

So, I just test drove my first Cayenne today, it is an '06 S Titanium with 15k on the clock and covered in Pure Red. Car was incredible and now I have a few questions.

First, this is the air ride and I would eventually like to lower it. What are my options?

Second, issues I should look for?

Thoughts on the Pure Red? At first I didn't like it, but over the last few hours it starting to grow on me. I have 2 options on the table both the same year, about the same miles and equipment. One in Silver and this one in Red.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
George.

First of all, keep in mind the red will haunt you more likely than not when times come to resale. It's a very sharp color for those who likes red, but I don't think most people wants a red SUV, just my opinion of course.

Secondly, if the silver one is also the titanium edition, be sure to know it is not really silver. It's more like a light blue to me. Just in case you haven't seen it in person or in daylight.

Either color you go with, it is an awesome SUV! Enjoy!

another ride height question...

Thanks for the inputs. I am still debating the color as well, but I have a few more questions:

First, if one of the S titanium models that I am looking at has the height control inside, what is the height difference from the highest setting to the lowest setting?

Second, with the adjustable ride height, once the car is in motion will it stay at that height or does it go back to a "normal" height?

Thanks,
George.

It's called the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), that alone was an $3000+ options. IIRC, you have 6+" of ground clearance at its lowest setting and 9+" at its highest. It is very noticeable visually when at its highest. Only slightly lowered at its lowest.

My '06 Titanium does not have it and there are times I wish it does. With the standard 19", the ride can be bumpy on some roads. Also, I do not tow, but if you do, make sure it has it. I cannot imagine how bad it would be if I have to put 6-7000 pounds back there. Speaking of towing, be sure to find one that has the tow hitch already. Getting one afterwards is very expensive from what I read. The part is quite expensive + the labor required + you need the dealer to program something in order for the brake lights or the brake controller to work = $$$

Here's a little bit more about PASM straight out of Porsche website:

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is an electronic control system that adjusts the suspension system to changing driving styles and road conditions. PASM is also available as an option on the Cayenne and Cayenne S and is combined with air suspension.

The PASM system uses a series of sensors to monitor the movement of the body under various forces and continuously adjusts the individual shock dynamics to help maintain an ideal balance of ride and handling.
PASM has three setup modes: “Comfort,” “Normal” and “Sport.”

If Comfort or Normal mode is selected and the PASM-equipped Cayenne is driven assertively, the system automatically switches to a firmer suspension. As the suspension stiffens, the Cayenne becomes more stable and easier to control.

Close to pulling the Trigger

Well, I couldn't resist the red, so I have one in my garage now, on an overnight test drive. It is an '06 S titanium, fairly well equipment, no air. 15k miles and put in service 2/07 so lots of warranty left. So far so good and I will decide tomorrow if I will buy it or not.

Right now we are $39500, but needs a new set of rear tires.

Thoughts, better deals??

Thanks
George.

Assuming this is a no story/accident car, price seems pretty good to me. Is this from a Porsche dealership? If so, make sure CPO is included. If it needs rear tires, make them pay for a set of 4 new tires. In case you haven't look it up, it is not cheap - $1000~$1200! And if it snows in your area or area you go to, be sure to get some all season tires. Most of the Cayennes I am aware of come with summer tires.

Good Luck!

Yet Another Question

The deal on the '06 Cayenne S fell through, but now I have an opportunity to get an '05 CTT with 35k miles. Mid $40k range and CPO through end of 2010. Car looks to be in great condition and well loaded.

So, what are the big hitter issues I need to look for? Will search the forums, but anything would be appreciated.

Thanks,
George.
