Cayenne Oil Change
change it every 5000 miles, you have nothing to lose if you change it more often than the factory recommendation and it won't cost you a fortune if you just go to jiffy lube or anything like that..
Mobil 1 0W-40 ( You can find the oil at walmarts, and can change it yourself. I think I've seen an easy oil change solution on Skymall, that requires no experience or going under the car, when I was flying back home
)

I for one plan on FULLY going 20k miles on my 04 CTT, it's under warranty and when it's not - I'll be getting rid of it anyway. 10 qts of synthetic on a full drysump shouldn't need more than that anyway, you call it cheap insurance, i call it wasted money - the issue with not changing it is just making sure you're checking your oil and are not letting it get low...
even after 20k miles my oil looked clean - shrug. do it more often if you want, but I'm pretty sure porsche is not recommending long interval oil changes just to break their cars.

when I checked around for my GTS, noone would actually touch it because of its cost.
I ended up taking it to the dealership and buying the mobile 1 myself. saved about 30 bucks for buying it myself. I think their cost for the labor was 70 bucks.
worth it to have a porsche dealership do the job.

i need to get the tool, forgot the name, since i do most of jobs in my garage...
This is an EASY DIY, and if you get the oil on sale you could do it for about $80. Order the parts from Sunset or Suncoast, and buy name brand synthetic oil in any recommended weight. It takes longer to get the protective covers off than it does to change the oil.
In general I would NOT recommend sucking the old oil out the dipstick b/c you will always leave oil and sediment behind.
These engines do fail. I personally change mine every 5k.
You CANNOT tell whether an oil has broken down by looking at it, you have to send it out to a lab (ie., Blackstone Labs) in order to get it analized. If you are looking to push the oil change interval to 10 or 20k, that's the only safe way to do it. Of course if you change oils, then you would have to get it re-analized.
I've seen uber expensive/fancy racing oil that won't hold up past 5k, so cost doesn't equal longevity.
Jiffy Lube is NOT an option unless you find one that will let you bring your own parts and oil. (they won't stock your filter, plug, or washer). Plus, I wouldn't trust them not to screw it up, or switch oils on you.
