Advice on Painting Skirts and Trim

I've been following this forum for a while, but this is my first post. I need help with a paint job. I am installing OEM side skirts and wheel arch extenders on my meteor gray cayenne turbo. The body shop doing the work pointed out that the exterior paint has two finishes - glossy metallic on the body panels above the door sill, and a matt finish on the lower panels. So my question is, when Porsche delivers a cayenne with skirts and wheel arches (e.g. GTS), are the matt areas (lower panels) finished in glossy coat, or do the skirts and lower parts of the wheel arch (below door sill) come in the matt color? In other words, is there a single OEM finish (glossy) or two finishes (glossy on panels above door sill, and matt below)? Hope this question is clear.

While I'm at it, figure I'd ask if anyone has painted their exterior aluminum trim matt black to recreate the "black exterior trim" option? Is this better than buying the black parts and replacing aluminum trim? Personally, I much prefer the GTS blacked-out look to the standard aluminum trim, and would like to make the change on my ride.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Anyone? I guess I should have included pictures of modded turbos...or naked women to get more traction. Anyway, if anyone knows the answer I'd really appreciate it. Pretty sure someone has a GTS or other car with skirts and knows if the skirts are glossy or matt.

On my 04CTS, the bottom trim pieces are painted matt.. however I bought mine used so I'm not sure if it was custom or not. I don't have the wheel arches, but I'd guess those would be in a glossy finish. The matt makes sense for the bottom of the car since it gets most of the damage from rocks, dirt, etc. I probably didn't help.. hah.. but good luck.

On my white 2009 CTT-S, the Sport Design Package (essentially the GTS bodykit) pieces have a textured satin finish. It seems like the satin finished pieces are not going to be very durable. The paint seems pretty fragile and susceptible to staining. I am not sure how the textured plastic would look in gloss but, based on the lack of durability, I suspect Porsche will be repainting mine and I will probably go gloss.

Thanks for the replies. I know nothing about paint finishes, so was using "glossy"/"matt" because I didn't know what else to call them. But it sounds like both your cars have a different finish (textured is a good way to describe it) on the lower panels. Much appreciated.

stock 08 GTS

side skirts = gloss
extended wheel arch(s) = gloss
lower door trim = matte

it is a bit confusing. i am doing the opposite (removing OEM skirts)
took the paint shop two tries to get the matte on the lower door
trim/mudguard dialed in.

That's weird - the finish goes from gloss (body panels) to matt (lower door sill) to gloss again (side skirts)? Think I'll do either door sill in gloss or skirts in matt to make it a little more continuous. Appreciate the help.

OK, so I'm becoming the King-O-Resurrection with these old posts -

I'm considering removing (or painting) my stock-option wheel arches as I feel they enhance the size of the wheel arch making my tires look too small; besides, I only drive highway, so not a lot of rocks.
Anybody know how they are attached ? One would assume 3M tape or screws, but no evidence of either. Also, any tips on removing...

yes the arches will attach with tape I noticed this when I finally opened the box they came in ... I plan on letting my guys who will be painting my wheel arches factory color that I purchased some time back mount them with an additional bonding agent silicone or whatever 3m type product is out there since my cayenne is no longer a garage hand washed queen.... The Cayenne has become the Mrs commute vehicle of choice and gets mechanical car washed, salt baths from the freshly salted north east roads, and always manages to be parked in a spot for the birds to bless her too, hence my concern for additional adhesion.

ok folks i finally got the arches painted and installed, the 10pc package for my generation Cayenne 2002-2006.... will let the results speak for them selves. Wife cant tell the difference and also all the photos were taken with my blackberry and Cayenne was not washed , ... A bonding agent from 3M was applied ( I don't recall the name but in 24hrs it was dry and 100% car wash ready i did run it through the car wash on the 23rd hour and 58min lol).

I didn't want to use the tape the pieces came with since they sat with me for ages and who knows how long it sat at the dealer before i purchased them. These pieces were originally a black/charcoal grey with texture. My buddy who preformed the magic smoothed them, filled them, primed them refilled re-primed sanded painted and cleared them not sure of the exact number of coats or the order they were done. In my eyes she looks like the pre Cayenne GTS, and i have got the nod from a few Cayenne's already (2009 Turbo S, and a 2011 Cayenne Turbo, one gent with a Titanium asked me was that an option i should have checked off i never saw those on the order book)
