How dependable are you finding the Cayenne?
I've owned several Toyota Landcrusiers and Lexus LX470's and thought I might look around for something that might be more fun to drive on a daily basis. But dependability is my number one concern with a SUV. Would love to get your "owner" opinion. Is there a difference based on engine/model? Thanks
Less days in the shop was one of my top concerns, since owning a Lexus LS400. After 2 years with a certified used 2004 Cayenne S, I have no regrets. Recently, I replaced a water pump, which was still covered on the warranty. Most of the other visits were oil changes and routine visits.
Actually, I am a bit surprised how less maintainance I have been experiencing The only recurring problem is the side turning bulbs, which I have them fix in between oil changes, as needed.

Well I bought mine in October and I'm heading back for the sixth time since purchasing. As mentioned on other threads, avoid the 2004 model unless you have some kind of warranty (I have CPO warranty, thank goodness). No problems have had me "walking", but this is getting annoying.
I have a 2006 that I bought new. It needed a new engine at 22K, I have 23K now. Even the service advisor told me that they are "expensive to own out of warranty". I would not own one out of warranty...
have a 08 GTS. No problems at all.
flawless so far and I have over 25K on it.
I also have a GX470 and a LX470 and a GS450h. All toyota/lexus. I actually had more problems with my hubrid GS than I have with my Cayenne GTS.
go figure....
toyotas will drive forever it seems, I have never owned a porsche long enough to really give a lifelong history, but I do have over 200K on the LX and NO problems whatsoever.

Put 30k miles on my first Cayenne and it was bullet proof (it was a 2004). I now have a 2009 and have put about 3k on it so far, its been in the shop twice so far for little things but I know it will treat me well in the years to come now.
You might have a couple of little glitches here and there when you buy a new Cayenne, but once you get them fixed its rock solid. Hope this helps!

A few folks suggested to me to stick with 2006+ when looking at used and/or CPO'd models.... if you can find a 2008 model, be okay with lack of the touchscreen pcm and save some dough, that might be the option for you. Either way, best of luck to you!
Fun is what I am looking for on my next SUV, even thinking about the 6 speed if it is a fun one not a truck shifter. Thanks for the info guys keep it comin
I have 2008 with 24,000 miles with no problems so far.I think the Cayenne is a great suv ,and can keep up with some very sporty cars on the twisties. Sometimes I can't believe how this 5000 lb suv can corner so well. It's fun to drive.
