Windshield replacement question

Driving the GTS in the stormy CA weather this weekend, I had a massive rock fly off the road and smash into the windshield on the driver's side. Its totally spidering and creeping larger each day.

Can I use any company, like a mobile repair guy, or should I take it to the stealer? Its a Porsche, so I want to make sure I do it properly.

take it to a reputable glass shop/mobile guys ASAP.
they tend to crack more when you drive car in and out of heated garage into cold weather. once this happens it is usually unsalvageable

most small cracks the guys can do wonders and fix the rigidity of window and clarity of crack

this is common problem up in calgary as they put stones on the road instead of salt!

I drove the other car today....its like a fist sized smash and then one line is snaking from far lookers left (sitting inside) and approaching mid windshield.

See if you can find out who does the glass replacement for your dealer or a high end body shop. They farm this out to a specialist.

I was quoted $1500 by the dealer to replace my MB ML windshield. I was quoted MSRP for the MB glass + 4 hrs labor by a high end body shop.

Through a friend (a car insurance adjuster) who had an inside contact, I found out the name of the installer used by both. He charged by $150 plus MSRP minus 20% for genuine MB glass; and he did it in the driveway at my house. Total cost was about $800.

if the size of the crack is bigger than a quarter, then it's not fix-able. Don't take it to the stealer since they will add a premium to what their subcontractor glass dude will charge. There are plenty of glass/windshield shops here in the Bay Area. Call your bodyshop and they can recommend someone.

The dealer will most likely use a glass company anyway so I would take it to one directly.

i can tell you I let the insurance co deal with the replacement on my mb and regretted it - it simply didn't wear well. Should I need one on the porsche i'm going straight to the dealer and biting the bullet
