Discount parts throguh VW
At the suggestion of one of the forum members I recently purchased replacement wiper blades at the VW dealer instead of the Porsche dealer. I inspected them carefully and discovered that they have the same "made in Belgium" stamp and part # as the factory blades. In fact the only difference was that the VW dealer charges $20 less. Normally I would not mind paying a little more for Porsche OEM parts but not when the Porsche dealer is practicing price gouging like this, assuming that Porsche owners will be willing to pay more for the same part being sold down the road by their parent company(VW). So..... what other OEM parts can be purchased for our Cayennes at a discount from the VW dealer?
Lets make a list of maintenance items that can be purchased this way. I'm guessing that the list could include things like floor mats, trim bits, other interior parts, and body parts? Essentially anything but drive train items and lights.

That is why they only charged you $80.

I will add two more.
1) The wiper blades are the same as VW.
2) The air filters are the same.
3) The trailer hitch is the same, but the electronic module is different!

air suspension parts are the same,
all the liquids used are the same,
turn signal lever and all the other levers around are the same,
a/c system components are the same,
battery is the same
we compared with my friend's touareg v8.

The air compressor is cheaper at Porsche, BUT, VW sells a rebuild kit for the compressor and Porsche does not.

Most things that have a part number beginning with 7L5 or 7L0 are a base VW number, if it starts with 955 or 948, most likely is a Porsche part. There will be exceptions to both of these, but in general......
If you want an online price check for Touareg parts check out 1stvwparts.com, they are an authorized VW dealer, that sells at a discount price through this site. You can enter your part number and it will show you the list price and the sell price of the item. The Touareg and the Cayenne share a lot of parts, including doors, transmissions, brakes, and wiper blades. The one issue for those north of the 49th is that they don't ship to Canada.
Sometimes I feel like I live in a third world country when it comes to the lack of availability of goods.
Also, the gouging up here is unreal, but thats another story.

Sorry, I had to let off some steam!
I feel much better now!
quick question about getting wiper blades from VW.
VW sells two kinds of front blades one for models 03-07 and 08-present.
If I have an '08 cayenne I would assume I need to get the 08-present ones from VW. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks.

The VW parts guy told me that the Toureg wipers also changed in 07. My Cayenne is an 06 so he gave me the corresponding VW wipers which were identicle to the factory blades that I replaced. You can always exchange them if you get it wrong the first time but Im guessing you'll be fine.
so bought the aftermarket wiper blades (2qty) 26", didn't like the aftermarket (non-OEM) look of the blade housing, I performed a surgery on the OEM housing and was able to transfer only the rubber blade part, took a good 1hr to figure out how to take apart. Now they perform better than my old OEM ones & look exactly the same as the OEM, all for $15.98 + tax, not bad at all
