Can you have a 911 key made for the cayenne?

Hello,

I am looking to buy a Cayenne, but the only thing is I don't like the key, frankley I think it is kind of stupid looking.

As the metal part of the key seems to be the same in the 911 and Cayenne keys, do you think that you can have a 911 key programmed for a cayenne?

I think they even have the same buttons.

Thanks
John

If not, with a few modifications, the guts of the Cayenne remote may fit inside the other! Just an idea.

I highly doubt it. It would take a lot of modification of both the key and the circuit board. Not worth the time and effort IMO.

Agreed. Not cost effective for final product.

Don't you prefer the key for the Cayenne more than the 911? The 911 key feels less refined with the metal bits exposed... and I also find that it has a tendency to dig into my thigh when it is in my pocket and I sit too quickly

I definitely like the 911 key better, I think the cayenne key is kind of stupid looking to be honest, and bulky.

I wasn't really asking about modifying the key, but if the Porsche dealer could take the 911 key and program it for the Cayenne with out any modifications as the Cayenne key and the 911 key have the exact same type of laser cut key that goes in the ignition and the same two buttons-trunk and lock/unlock.

Anyone know?

John

i'm gunna have to agree w/ you john, i'm not a fan of my cayenne key, it's massive! if there was a cost-effective way to do this i'd love to do it, i don't see it being a problem, they should definitely be able to cut you a 911 key for the cayenne..but probably charge you double what it would normally cost, for no other reason, than they can.

Very interesting idea. I also don't like the bulkiness. I actually keep it hanging out of my pocket.

programming key to different Porsche model

I think it comes down to the Frequency. The 2006-2010 Cayenne Key is 315 MHz
I read that the 997 key is 315 or 433mhz. Perhaps if the frequency is the same then the PWIS can program either blank Porsche key fob to either one.

I think it's pretty unlikely, but it never hurts to ask your dealer.

Personally, I like the Cayenne key. I like the fact that it folds and fits easily in my pocket, as opposed to the fixed blade of my 911 key. I'm in need of another key for my Cayenne and I asked my dealer if the current Cayenne key could be programmed to work in my older Cayenne, and he said it wasn't possible.
