How much performance from an S?
If you make performance mods to an S, how much more power and acceleration can you ad? What mods are required? Price for thos mods? Does it make more sense just to start with a Turbo?
If u want turbo speed get a turbo. You will NEVER get th power of a turbo out of an S. With the fabspeed baypass pipes (17 hp for 550.00) the fabspeed catback exhaust which I believe is about 1250.00 adds another 10 or so HP, and with an ecu upgrade you might get another 15-20 max. With all this maximum gains would be @ 50hp for about 3500.00 You are still considerably cheaper then a turbo. Again if u want/need turbo speed go turbo, cause u will never get that out of a N/A Cayenne S.....

"Does it make more sense to start with a Turbo?"
Now that's the Question isn't it?
I think it depends on a number of issues. Including how you plan to use the car, your budget and your perceived need for more power.
When contemplating the purchase of an S vs a Turbo, I would also encourage you to consider the purchase of a 997 GT3. The GT3 is a much tougher car with a very strong normally aspirated engine.
I think an S purchase with a EVO Supercharger upgrade is a perfectly reasonable way to go. (I plan to do it) Especially if you like the RWD of the S and for budget reasons need to phase in the upgrades. A Supercharged S will give you more power than a stock Tubo.
You can put $15K (total $105)into an S and have alot more car than a Stock Turbo that costs $120K.
However, if you feel like you will "need" more than 500HP, then get a Turbo. A Turbo will expand way beyond the capacity of a NA or SC engine.
My final recommendation: Wait for a 997 GT3
